No offense, but I don't know anybody entering the actuarial field who would work for 20K. I know few professionals in any field, for that matter, especially in New York, who would work for that.
There is a salary survey at
http://www.dwsimpson.com/salary.html
that should give you a sense of what actuarial students are getting. Good luck.

$20,000??? I think QuikTrip starts their assistant managers off at about $7,000 more than that. Better remove "actuarial" from the description & replace with "secretarial."

Maybe the first exam raise is 20k too.

I am sure secretaries in NY make more than that. Should replace with migrant worker.

$20K? That would've been a good actuarial trainee starting salary back in 1985 for the Tupelo, MS region.
If this job is in Manhattan, maybe they mean $20K a month!
I happened to notice that ad also. I was very surprised by the low pay. I agree, it really sounds like a secretary.
As far as $20K a month (I'm in NYC), I should be so lucky!

What's the going wage for a career actuarial analyst in NYC? By career analyst, I mean one of those calculators that live in a cube farm and never write exams.

In the Midwest, we have a position like this (also similar non-actuarial technical analyst / math positions). Minimum is 30 - 35 (depending on level of complexity).
We are not known for overpaying - have a compa-ratio just under 1.0.
Therefore, unless it's part-time, probably not going to get a math person for 20s, especially in NY.
I was going to comment that our minimum pay for mail delivery (one of our lowest paid positions) was a little over 20, but in the last few weeks that has become hazardous pay.

From my experience doing pension valuations, I can tell you that $20K is bank teller compensation, even here in the South, where companies are not necessarily known for paying support people well.

<font size=2>Also, as I'm sure many of you have already made a mental note, $20K full time equates to approximately $10/hr.

Are you referring to free range analysts? Be kind to analysts. Don't eat them.
