I'm tired of lugging my heavy laptop around to every meeting. I'm looking for a nice light compact laptop that will keep me connected, and allow me to carry work and presentations around. I also don't want to faff about with external drives, so integrated DVD ROM would be good. I'm looking at the Sony Viao TR3, because it's so very pretty and I am shallow.
Anyone got one of these, or a better suggestion?

When I looked into this a year or so ago (but never got around to buying anything), I thought the Vaio was the way to go. It's sweet in person.
Here's a comparison: http://reviews.cnet.com/Notebooks/4521-6527_7-5021302-7.html

I've got the Viao - great little machine.
More than powerful enough for most things I want to do on the road (keyboard is perhaps a touch small for my hands). Pretty good battery life - last time we flew from Toronto to Vancouver my kids managed to watch two movies with an earphone splitter before it died on them.

Thats a pretty impressive earphone splitter. And here I went and spent all that money on a portable DVD player.:-)

The one drawback of Sony used to be that there was no floppy and you would need a pen drive...now, that's the norm anyway, so the Sony is a great way to go.

Talked to our supplier today, he recommended the Fujitsu P7010 -- as more reliable than Sony and better value for money. The Sony's prettier, but the balance of internet opinion seems to go for the Fujitsu.

I gave my 6 year old grandson a portable DVD player + a couple movies for his birthday. His mom and dad tell me that was a godsend on a recent trip. :D

I agree. The Fujitsu P7010 seems more reliable and the Atheros wireless card has better reception than the Intel cards. Check out this excel spreadsheet (http://www.leog.net/ftp/laptops.xls) from the Fujitsu forums comparing various ultra portables. Eventhough the table shows that the P7010 takes a msximum RAM of 1GB, the machine will take up to 2GB.
The one thing I like about the Sony is the bluetooth capabilities.

I totally agree with you. Sony and its parts are expensive! For me, I used Toshiba and Fujitsu, which are very reliable. Please pay attention to the laptop harddisk. I had a terribly experience with Acer. The harddisk was broken two times within the warranty. Even though the harddisk was replaced, all my info was lost!
