RMIA launches new national risk management qualification

The Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA) has created a new accreditation for risk management practitioners in Australasia.

Certified Risk Technician (CRT) will be a mainstream qualification for people practising risk management in line with the Australian Standard, AS/NZS 4360: 2004. Australia was the first country in the world to introduce a risk management standard.

Brad Greer, RMIA president, said CRT would cover risk management practitionersworking on corporate, enterprise and business risks, including those in specialist areas such as compliance, legal, financial and security risks, and those in industries whererisk management was an occupational requirement, for example safety, food and health.

“Development of the CRT was led by RMIA’s director of education, Tony Charge. CRT will complement the advanced accreditation introduced in 2002, the Certified Practicing Risk Manager (CPRM), which requires tertiary qualifications and at least five years’ supervisory or management experience in risk,” Mr Greer said.

“CRT will be attainable by most if not all competent risk management practitioners and offers industry a higher level of confidence that their risk management is in the hands of accredited professionals.”

Mr Greer said CRT courses would be introduced soon, with full details to appear on the RMIA website, www.rmia.org.au. By next year, courses would be offered online and through assessment centres.
