For those of you that took part 7 in the spring, did getting rid of the multiple choice problems make the exam harder/easier/longer/shorter/no change??? I would think that normally it would be a little easier getting 13-15 or so out of 18-20 MC than that many points out of essays, especially if it's ALL essay.

All essay exams cause a lot more strain on the arm, but I find that in general it allows for more reasonable questions, and partial credit if you make mistakes. For MC questions there is always a chance that one can get tripped up on details and end up losing points on subjects that they know well.

If you are getting tripped up on details, then you don't know the material well. At least not well enough for fellowship.
Get Lost CE. You are an idiot.

If the Exam Committee saw it your way, they would not have eliminated MC from the exams. Even the examiners were getting tripped up on details, which is why many exams had at least one question invalidated or given multiple correct answers.

I doubt that it was the details. More likely, it was the difficulty in writing good multiple choice questions.
The details matter and will continue to matter now that the exam is 100% essay.
If you know 80% of 80% of the material your expected score is only 64%.

longer/shorter who knows? depends if the exam committee thinks they can replace 20 MC with 20 essays.
easier/harder i guess depends on how well you did previously on MC compared to the rest of the exam takers. personally, i always sucked on MC so i'm liking the change.

It was, as usual, too long. It was fair, but good god, when are they going to realize we don't face this kind of time pressure in our real jobs, why should we for something so important? I'd take a 6 hour test if it meant I could actually get to all the questions.
