Has the CAS given a date when the passing candidate numbers or names will be released? Also, do they ever release the pass mark before the passing candidate numbers?

Last time it took about 5 weeks. Based on what I saw in the posts in June, that's early. 5-7 weeks sounds about right. But there's not a set time to release that I know of.

As for your second question, no. People figured out the pass mark based on how they think they did. For this exam, the pass mark will likely be between 44-47.

They don't relase a passing score, that's the part that takes a while to come up with. It was exactly 5 weeks last sitting. They tell you it takes "6-8 weeks" I think 5 weeks was more of an oddity than a regularity. I don't think it's ever been that long. I would expect about 6 weeks.

I don't support your 44-47. Let's lower that to 41-45.5. There are a lot of variables that you are not considering in your range. I doubt we'll see a pass mark higher than 45 but added the extra .5 to cover the bases. People who have done well and pass an exam have the tendency to inflate their estimated pass mark. I wouldn't doubt that you fall in this category so congrats.

Believe me, having a pass mark like that would set me much more at ease, but I would rather not get my hopes up. This past exam was generally considered to be more difficult than the previous CAS3 exams, mostly because of the stats. But it all depends on the CAS perspective on difficulty.

The CAS is not going to necesarially pass 40% every sitting. For example, the joint exam 2 at one point only passed 27% three sittings ago I think. The CAS will not lower its pass score to something like 35 points or something like that to make the 40% pass.

I doubt we're going to see lower than 45. I can't imagine them having it at 40 points or 41 points. Has any CAS exam EVER had a percentage that close to 50%?

Also, just becuase we felt it more difficult doesn't mean the CAS thought it was THAT much more difficult than previous sittings.

In general, the CAS releases pass marks about a year after the exam was administered (long enough that all outstanding issues have been settled, etc.) Of course, for the purely MC exam 3 the students can figure it out shortly after the pass list comes out. But when they get around to releasing the passmark, it should be here:

It seems that recent passmarks have been 47.5, 45, and 47. (out of 80)

I speculate that the passmark would be in the range of 46-47.5.

So we think the passmark is probably in the 45-48 range somewhere. How many points would you need to have gotten on the exam to make you feel all warm and fuzzy about passing?? 50? 52?

49. I'd be shocked if this exam was scored with a higher pass mark than the last one. I still think it'll fall in the 44-46 range. There were a couple of gimmes, but the stats were too tough there were some slick questions later on.
