Can anyone please help me? There seems to be two ways of getting audio-tapes for PD credits - use AVEN (Audio-Visual Education Network - Cost is $12.50 each) or use the Distance Learning subscription of $125. I need about 10 audio tapes from SOA Spring Meeting of 2005. Which is the better source in terms of benefits? Does Distance Learning provide audio tapes of all the sessions - AVEN did not provide for some of them. Is there any site we can go to to see which sessions are covered by Distance Learning? I would appreciate a response ASAP!

The tapes you get from the distance learning are the same tapes you get from AVEN. In fact, AVEN even sends them. I signed up for the Distance Learning and I was able to talk them into sending me the entire 2005 Valuation Symposium on one CD instead of bunch of tapes.

Could you tell me how many credits (max) you can get out of this?

Bama Gambler,
Your response is greatly appreciated. This means that if I need less than 10 tapes, I can order directly from AVEN at $12.50 each and that will be cheaper than paying $125 to Distance Learning. Thank you again.

BG - did you talk to the SOA or to AVEN?

I would be careful about trying to circumvent the full $125. I had the impression that you had to register for Distance Learning if you wanted to get the credits for PD. Ordering tapes/CDs individually would not register you. I would double check before you try.

Thank you Mcsquared,
your comment makes an important point. I will check with SOA. Since I need 7-8 tapes, I will probably be safer going thru Distance Learning route. I was trying to save on time since AVEN promised to ship the tapes within 7 days. SOA takes long to do anything. Your response is greatly appreciated.

I emailed the SOA this question:
Do I need to subscribe to the Distance Learning Subscription program in
order to use audio tapes from meetings as part of my PD credits, or can I
order tapes directly from AVEN for sessions that were approved in the
meeting descriptions for PD credits?
Their response was:
You may order tapes directly from AVEN if desired.
