After you beat me last time? Hmmmmm... I use to own Car'a'carn til he turned the tables on me, now I can't stop the hammering :judge: he's been dealing me.
Oh hell, I'll play it out.

I, like most I'm sure, will be out of town and likely not moving much if at all between Christmas and 1-1-06. Please forgive my slowness and have happy holidays.
Seacrest, I mean Darth Tater...out.

12/28-1/4 for me, though I may be able to make some moves during that time.

RSF, I guess this got lost in the other thread:
As I have finished resigning all my games, I'm going to bow out of chess leagues for a while. Please, RSF, take me off the list. I'll let you know when / if I decide to play again. Thanks for the games, folks.
So given that Mel and Jonas want in, and thtevie will be out, would it be too much of a hassle to reset the pools? I'm just hoping for a pool of 5 at the bottom, instead of the current 3. (I suppose we could accomodate Jonas and Mel, but I have a feeling I know who's gonna advance next season already!)

Well, unless Utan and Drewby protest, I say you hop into the D Group - that way we get 4 games instead of 2, since thtevie's retired.
Is that okay with you, RedSoxFan?

After embarrassing myself against Darth, I am making more of a dent in the A flight than I would have imagined.
I'm on a streak against CR. At move 38, it's My Q+N+6P vs his R+2N+3P. I should be able to pull this one off by keeping his pieces at bay and cleaning up, but CR is not one to give up until the game is clearly over, and I imagine I have another 10+ moves to accomplish that.
Ramanujan and I are at a slightly locked position at move 20. I like my position better but don't know that it's a terrific advantage. In my few games vs Ramanujan I've noticed he has a way of outlasting me.
Caracarn and I are at move 47. In the past he has wasted me, so this game is quite an improvement. Despite a material disadvantage endgame, if I play my pieces right I can at least force him to show me a knight and bishop checkmate but there are two pawns to pick off first.

The Lord of the Dark (palying white), trashed me. I should've resigned around move 14. Sorry for dragging it out Darth.
IFYQ
Naw... I think you had some fight, though that trap was pretty nice....it usually goes a little differently with you taking the a-pawn.
The one thing I'd like to point out is that on move 15 (one more later than you thin you should have resigned :-) ) your N went to the rim (the grim, grim rim) and it never made it back -- that was tough to deal with and I knew it. I must say that I had to work pretty hard to work out the details of the king hunt at the end and you, as I expected, picked the hardest route for me. The result was inevitable as of move 36.
Oh, and I'd like to point out that this was not a "typical" CC vs DT game with the first 10-20 moves pre-rehearsed! I actually played 1.e4!!! Good game CC.

Good game Charlie. I left the pawn, because I was not sure I would fit into the 50 moves requirement, but it help in an other way :-P . My goal was to get your king to a8.
Generally when only a bishop and a knight are left on the board, the goal should be to get opponets king in a corner of same colorr as the bishop, to be able to checkmate it.

Unfortunately, we got to only 68. Probably we would not have gone to 100 anyway. I had no idea how long does it take to checkmate an opponent using bishop and knight only, so I simply added 50 to our current move count.

I played poorly. I wouldn't say that I was behind in development but my position was too cramped, didn't have enough space and my pieces were placed poorly.
In any case, if you play the way you played, a better piece placement for me would not have made any difference. Your attack was exceptionally good, very very creative - kind that every chess player (at least at our level) dreams of being able to inflict. Keep it up.

I saw that knight check there, but didn't realize it was mate, nice set up with that seemingly innocuous pawn push to a3. Regardless, my hope for a draw was a long shot; I'm sure you would have eventually won this anyway.

It was a pretty good game, but white was starting to fall apart a bit and then hung the rook...Overall a good game.
This is one of at least two games where I've purposefully gotten out of my confort zone on openings and it has paid off...perhaps more of this to come....!?!?!?

I do not recall any one claiming a win only because his/her opponent did not move at least once per day.
Many people have complained about his speed, but he did not change.

Add me to the list of gripers for AC. I have a mental minimum: In a given non-holiday week from Sunday to Saturday, at least 5 moves should be made. I know I personaly get tied up and cannot get to a computer (*gasp!*) on the weekends, but yes that does happen and I think most others know about that exceptino as well.
I don't want AC to lose for moving slowly, I just want him/her to pick up the pace when we are playing!!!

CR finally gets his long-awaited draw. I checked it out on the computer just now and despite an advantage of +2.8 I can't stop his king from doing laps around the knight. Move the pawn and the rook snatches it, QED. It's a trivial exercise for me to force a draw simply by sacrificing my queen for the rook and leaving CR with only a knight. Furthermore his king can head to the corner to force a stalemate. Too bad, the one winning position I had in Flight A and I threw it away. I'm white:
1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. cxd5 cxd5 4. Nc3 Nf6 5. Nf3 Nc6 6. Bf4 Bg4 7. e3 a6 8. h3 Bxf3 9. Qxf3 e6 10. Bd3 Rc8 11. O-O Bd6 12. a3 O-O 13. Bg5 Be7 14. Rac1 h6 15. Bf4 Bd6 16. Rfe1 e5 17. dxe5 Bxe5 18. You're up +2.8 and can't find a win? Man you suck. If I had that kind of advantage I could do wonderful things with it.
53 a4 would have led to a lot more possibilities for each side.

OK, I did get a break there. How far ahead do you have to be to coast home?
You got to admit, pretty sweet defense I put up with the rook and the knight to lock you out of making any progress.

Actually, "wait" is a good word. I'm going to have to sit out on these tournaments through April, since Exam 7's getting intense. But starting in late April, I'm moving my way up to you!!! Oh, and I'm not taking a Fall Exam this year, so I hope you're shaking in your boots!!!!

AB and I agreed to a draw. Even in material, with no immediate threats, we decided to call it even.
Plenty of wood still on the board, so somebody probably would've won. The lure of the sure half-point and avoiding a sweep were too much to resist. Good game, or half-game.

Well...this one should've been a draw by repetition (something like move 41)...but the computer didn't catch it, so UA and I decided to keep playing...and then he resigned to me. It won't matter in the rankings (afaict), so call it what you want. I was white.

I just defeated Bama. That was a good game that got so close to being a draw, but I found a way out of it. When Bama got his rook to the 7th rank, I feared an exchange of rooks and pawns, leaving me with a B and 2 Ps against 3 Ps. I'm not sure if that's winable. Starting with move 21, I decided that I could let my pawns go to win the race in getting 2 rooks on the 7th rank. I won that race and also the game.
Good game, Bama!

All Clear beats Gene Yuss. Good game Gene! I was able to swipe a couple of pawns on the King's side and had quite an interesting position there- I believe there were four or five consecutive moves where he could not take my queen or bishop because they would have put him in check. I stayed ahead by those same pawns all the way to the end.
