I was wondering if getting Microsoft certification in Excel would be helpful in landing an entry-level actuarial job on the property and casualty side. I know the exams themselves are time consuming (passed the first), but I should have some time to learn Excel before the next session in May. Any thoughts, or should I just spend my extra time watching TV or adding to my post count?

Knowing Excel should be enough. Certificate probably won't impress any actuary enough to favor you.

Whatever you can learn about Excel on your own won't be enough to impress any Actuary anyway.
