It was worth staying awake for. Yeah, Colangelo bought a Series, but at least (a) the Yankees lost and (b) a lot of guys (Grace, Johnson, Schilling, Morgan, etc.) who've been around for a long time got a chance to play, and win, a World Series.

Exciting final game, too. It got to the point where the next pitch could be the last of the series, and could end it either way (dp or hit) - what more could a fan ask for?
Have you ever seen an _uglier_ hit to win a game as big as this one?
Another Good Thing: c) Kim won't go down in history as "The Guy who Blew the Series".

How soon will the fire sale begin?
And the hit that won the '97 series for the Marlins wasn't any prettier.

Hello all!
moj, I thought you were going to work today!?
Where's Bama? Is her exam, today?
If you read this Bama, I am kicking your team's a*s in fantasy football. I've got you by one point with one game to go.
However, currently I am not covering the spread.

Speaking of Fantasy Football - is this the week of Revenge of the Downtrodden, Beaten Dog Teams? Looks like the bottom 4 teams with a combined record of (3-25) are going for a (4-0) sweep this week!
Imagine putting a parlay on that happening!

Checkin' in. Bama is alive & studying at home as far as I know. I'm at work, but spending the day in solitary confinement with the books.
Moj, offer me a trade for Gannon that includes a good RB & I'll consider it. I don't need to swap WR's. I don't think it will help that much, but you've got to do something when Cadaver's laying a beating on you.
Shrek
11-05-2001, 01:24 PM
Weren't you gonna bench Gannon this week, Ducky? Me thinks you shoulda.
Maine-iac
11-05-2001, 01:32 PM
OK, that's an XL decaf heavy on the milk for Ammie, a large coffee with caffeine for Ron, and a strong tea for me. Assorted muffins and donuts. Help yourself.

Ron Weasley
11-05-2001, 02:19 PM
Thanks Maine-iac! I feel much better now!
Sorry Ducky. I viewed it more as a QB swap. I am not interested in dumping any of my RBs. I viewed it merely as a trade of one guy who is under-acheiveing for another guy in the same boat.
I'll check out my roster, but I do not much to trade away.

The 2002 Syllabus is on line! OK, take a deep breath. Some interesting highlights:
(1) The May exams are a week later: May 7th - 9th! Does anyone know why? Does it have to do w/ the time of the first Full Moon after the Spring Equinox?
But more importantly, those who wanted to start studying early...RELAX, you have another week of R&R, and you can still get on the same time table.
(2) According to the Web Fee Schedule, they are having a Spring Sale on the Part 8 exam fee. Regular exam fees are $475, Part 8 is a mere $75! What a bargain! At that price if you were planning on taking Part 5 or 7, you might want to sign up for Part 8 too!
Ducky

I have 6 FF teams & somehow forgot to change the lineups for all of them. Studying sucks! I don't think Brady/Gannon is going to make any difference this week.

WORLD SERIES THOUGHTS - As much as I hate the Yankees, I was actually rooting for them. I'm somewhat ashamed to admit it. I think it was partly due to the 9-11 events, but also because Arizona had no redeeming qualities to them.
I can understand wanting to see Schilling, Johnson or Grace win a WS, but the idea of Arizona winning in their 4th yr is as nauseating as the Marlins winning in their 5th year. As a good Tribe Fan knows, suffering is part of being a great baseball fan, and we can commiserate w/ the Cub fans and the Red Sox fans, and others who have waited a long time for post season success.
The most disturbing quote after the Marlins WS win (over my beloved Tribe) was the Marlin Fan: "I didn't think it would take this long (5 years) to win (the WS)." Add that comment to the firesale before the next season began and never was a city less deserving of a WS win.
I guess there was some cosmic significance to the Marlin win, since it proved you can rent a bunch of stars, put together a winner, and break them up just as fast. It wouldn't have had the same meaning if the Marlins had lost the WS. It remains to be seen what will happen to the Diamondbacks. Heaven forbid if it should take them longer than 4 years to get back to their next WS let alone win another one.
So to me, it didn't really matter how many WS's the Yankees won in a row, since they are always the "greatest..yada, yada...", just as long as the team they were playing didn't win if they were less deserving.
Anyone have similar feelings?
Shrek
11-05-2001, 03:24 PM
CR - NO. I dislike the Yankers so much, there's no way I'd ever cheer for them to win.
ADIP - Does it have to be after work? I could really use one now.

There are cliques in every aspect of life, why should discussion forums be any different?
People with similar interests generally tend to congregate together. Gives you something to talk about.

Yes, but you only congregate in one thread and only when the CAS forum is down!
Of course you can consider this forum as one big clique of people interested in actuarial science. But past that, people here disperse into different threads. No cliques within the big clique. Everybody feels welcome here.
So, disperse and socialize. This is the REBEL board. We rebeled against the SOA clique!
