I was recently told that since I have 20 pd credits from the old system that I can complete PD for the FSA, without having to do a project, before the end of 2007 and that this will count for the 2nd Course 8 exam?
Is this true?
Can I do this by only listening to CD's, or whatever?
Is there somewhere where this is set out concisely?

Sorry to bug you guys with this.

http://www.soa.org/ccm/cms-service/stream/asset?asset_id=16552084&g11n.enc=UTF-8 (pdf file)

The first line of the second page states that if you have PD credits that were from exams prior to the 2000 conversion, you can work on PD without Courses 1-8.

And here: http://www.soa.org/ccm/content/exams-education-jobs/candidate-and-exam-information/faq/

The first question addresses the issue that if you have >15 credits from conversion, you can apply 15 of those to satisfy the project requirement for PD.

15 from seminars 15 from tapes/CDs, according to the SOA (I'm in the same exact situation and have emailed ombudsperson).

... holy crap! you mean that we can finish PD by just listening to tapes and going to seminars!!!!!!!!! :) :)
Damn, and I thought that 8 I got on 110 right before conversion had lost all value!

I tried looking but I didn't see the details about this. Does anybody know what they are or where to look. FOr example, what seminars qualify for how many pd credits, and how we go about getting credit for them, etc...

Look at the following link:

http://www.soa.org/ccm/content/exams-education-jobs/candidate-and-exam-information/approve/

These are specifically SOA-approved. If you would like to get credit for something not on their list, look at the bottom of the following:

PD needs to be completed by 6/30/07 (not 12/31/07).

15 from seminars 15 from tapes/CDs, according to the SOA (I'm in the same exact situation and have emailed ombudsperson).Just to generalize a bit further, we may earn a maximum of 15 credits using distance-learning (tapes/CDs). if conversion credit >=15, whatever remains may be earned via "live" seminars.

There is some question as to whether live webcasts count as "live" or distance-learning.

http://www.soa.org/ccm/content/exams-education-jobs/candidate-and-exam-information/apply/I am compelled to point out that the list in the first link is woefully incomplete. Neither the Life nor Health Spring Meeting in May, for example, are listed. And most of the sessions for those are approved for PD. The Valuation Symposium in September and annual meeting in October are also not yet on the list.
