Okay. I give in. But I'm not going to post in here as much or do weekly weigh-ins or any of that stuff...
I have to walk in a breast cancer walk this Saturday! And for me, rolling out of bed is enough exercise as it is.
I could walk in the "Kids for the Cure" Walk....but I won't...
I'm scared I'll give up half-way...I hope I won't!
Fill you in on how it goes Saturday...Ya never know, I might actually get off my fat butt after that and start exercising..!

I can totally relate to annabel...Except atleast she started exercising--I didn't!
My goal is to take extra-small baby steps...I want to lose 10 pounds, and get rid of some jelly!
Step one: Roll outta bed!
Step two: Instead of shoving a fried chicken drumstick in my mouth, throw it so far that it reaches silverfox all the way in Michigan...LoL that's for weighing the same as me and complaining you need to gain weight!

Back from the walk!!! I made it!!
I didn't do the kids for the cure walk...i did the entire walk on my own! Phew...Geez maybe i'm in better shape than I thought I was...
The walk was fun, and the south FL weather really was great..It was nice n breezy and cool...
Ya never know...I might set foot into a gym sooner than ya think!
I was also thinkin of joinin the local Curves for Women thing...one of em is super duper close to where I live...
We'll see how it goes!

Take a nice, long hot bath - that will make your muscles feel better! And if they still hurt, try a couple Advil. I don't want to scare you, but you'll probably wake up more sore tomorrow morning that today! But just take it easy tomorrow and by Monday you should be ready to workout again!
Good job! Good to see you're alive, post-walk.
Keep up the good work!

No, but you do swing your arms when you walk (at least most do). One of my trainers said also that if you tend to let them swing hanging down by your side your arms/shoulders could get sore, as opposed to walking with them bent at the elbows. Mine used to get sore when I walked a lot before I started running. I'd walk a couple of miles a day and that was the explanation she gave me when I asked. Or something like that. It was a few years ago.
 I just got a mental image of you doing the walk on your hands!
BTW, you may have mentioned, but what part of S. Florida?

That SO makes sense! LoL geez I wish someone told me before I walked! my arms and shoulders are sore as hell...but my feet don't even hurt nor do my legs! It makes sense now...golly I didn't think of that at all!
I took today off from doing any sort of physical work--I guess I'm just a lazy poopie, that's all..

My weakpoint? Mashed potatoes...!
I luvvv microwaving a bowl with some american cheese on top...Two huge batches in the fridge...
Does anyone have a healthier version of mashed potatoes?
My mom adds a lott of butter to hers...And whole milk too...
She simply refuses to buy skim or even 2% milk..She's like "I'm not going to pay money for water!"

Well, those were part of my options, plus leaving out the butter. Also, there are recipes floating around which use cauliflower instead of potatoes. Supposed to be just as good. I'm not a huge mashed potato fan, so I do w/o and haven't tried the cauliflower recipe yet.

I find that it's usually healthier if I eat out--doesn't matter where...school..Subway...Mall...wherever!
At home I have no such luck...My brother is a major chocoholic so there is SO much temptation...if I were at home now on the computer there would probably be an opened packet of Oreo cookies next to the computer...
At school...the food is horrible...so I have no choice but to eat salads...Except when the cheese pizza is fresh outta the oven...:D

My mashed potato tricks -
Use chicken stock for liquid, not milk.
Instead of butter, use parmesan cheese (the real stuff, not the stuff that comes in a can) and 1 clove of fresh garlic (this is very strong.)
Also, onion salt adds a lot of flavor with no added calories.
FRESHLY GROUND black pepper...it really does make a difference.
Another good combo - blue cheese crumbles and chopped parley or cilantro. Just go easy on the cheese. The nice thing about blue cheese is you get a lot of flavor for a little bit of cheese (as opposed to American, which I think only tastes good because of the fat content, no realy flavor otherwise.)
Frenchie's Cauliflower suggestion is really the best, though.

I still haven't exercised yet...Although one thing that helps me is holding my tummy muscles in whenever I think about it...Someone suggested it and that's a great idea!
I was running really really late this morning, and I did not want to eat breakfast outside of home...(Mainly coz I'm a cheapskate)..So on my way out the door I threw 3 slices of whole wheat bread, just plain, onto a paper plate a long with a banana..And that was breakfast!
So I feel good....
And then on my way to school Mom's like "what time are you coming home? We're having steak and mashed potatoes for dinner, and I've already marinated the steak!"

Lunch was good:
Tuna Salad wrap (a la school cafeteria) and 16 oz. of 2% milk. (I think it's 240 calories...dunno bout the tuna wrap tho...but boy was it good!)
Dinner tonight will be the ultimate killer with mom's steak and mashed potatoes....but I was good all day, so I'm not worried about it.
Exercise: Zippo! Well...not entirely..I did those funny tummy exercises while I was typing the last post...So I really was good today...

Good luck and keep up the good work!
You could try talking to your doctor and then to your Mom - explain that the main goal is to be healthier, and ask if she'll help/support you in that goal. Once there's a doctor behind you, she might be more likely to, say, switch to skim milk, or use trans-fat-free margerine instead of butter, etc.

I'm assuming getting your eyes checked would be cheaper. Since you're a poor college student like me, it's best if you get your eyes checked. When you're a rich employed actuary with money and some chains around your neck, then you can go for those CT scans. And you can be my sugar daddy too, but this isn't the thread for it.

Yes, there are "healthier" versions of jam. Not sure about fat content. But if you get like polaner all-fruit, or sugar free jam, then those have fewer calories and such.

I don't think any jams and jellies have fat, unless you count spreads like lemon curd (which I think has eggs in it). You can get low sugar jams, but as long as you keep the amounts reasonable, there's not that much harm in real jam as long as you eat it with some protein or high-fiber foods to avoid the sugar rush of jam on white toast.

Skipping back to the cauliflower question . . .
FAUX MASHED POTATOES
16 ounce bag frozen cauliflower
2 tablespoons water
1-2 tablespoons butter
Salt and pepper, to taste
Place frozen cauliflower in a casserole with a lid; add the water. Cover and microwave on HIGH about 8-10 minutes, until very tender, stirring occasionally. Drain well and put cauliflower in food processor. Process until smooth and creamy. Remove to serving bowl and season with salt and pepper and butter.
Makes about 4 servings Per Serving: 78 Calories; 6g Fat; 2g Protein; 5g Carbohydrate; 3g Dietary Fiber; 2g Net Carbs
There's the basic recipie for the cauliflower mash. You can vary it with garlic, spices, cutting back the butter, etc.
My general opinion is:
1. They really look like mashed potatoes.
2. They don't taste like mashed potatoes, so don't expect it.
3. They do taste quite good.
If you just want to try them before making a big batch, I believe they are still an option at Ruby Tuesday's (They'll sub them for the potatoes in a meal if you ask.) I haven't been to Ruby's in awhile, so that may have changed.

The past few days I guess my diet hasn't really changed that much...Still the usual...every day bagel with C/C for breakfast...Today skipped the cream cheese...So just a plain wheat bagel. Go home n pig out...I tried eating a healthier cereal (Special K) eww I did not like it...So back to frosted flakes I go! Exercise? Virtually none... I didn't have the time to go anywhere n when I did have the time I was too pooped out to care about anything...

What size bagel? The "standard" size these days is HUGE! Something like 300 calories per dry bagel.
Thomas' and Pepperidge Farm both are selling mini-bagels these days at around 100 - 120. I like those for breakfast. The frozen bagels you can get tend to be in between the "standard" and the mini if you don't want to go that small.
A little protein in breakfast is a good thing, so I don't think the CC is all that bad, if you get a lower fat variety and watch the amounts.
Special K is kind of bland. Have you tried the Kashi Go Lean Crunch? It's actually a little high on the calorie side if you compare it with other "healthy" cereals but it's very filling and I don't feel like bingeing at all when I eat it.
Hang in there!

It's a mindset...if you want to, you can!
Breakfast is the hardest for me, and I know that it really shouldn't be. But, if I go to the gym in the morning, I need to eat something before hand and then pack something light for after a workout, or if I don't go to the gym, I find that I'd rather grab something to eat on the way into work. I usually end up making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich - using sugar free jelly and reduced calorie bread, it's 200 calories (I only use 1 Tbsp of peanut butter). That, and 8 oz of OJ is 310 calories.
This morning, I decided to make breakfast -- and it took me 3 minutes -- which is about what it would take to toast and schmear a bagel. Sprayed a tupperware bowl with pam, cracked an egg (80 calories) in it and mixed it up. Measured 1 Tbsp of bacon pieces (25 calories) to mix with the egg. Put it in the microwave for 40 seconds. Put a few slices of ham (50 calories) on a tortilla wrap (110 calories). 265 calories - and I know that it's better for me than pb&j. On the way I went.

I don't buy the excuse that there's no time to eat properly. You have to eat - it takes just as much time to eat something bad for you as it does to eat something healthy. If your small bagel doesn't fill you up, eat a piece of fruit afterward. You can eat if you're still hungry, just eat something good for you like an apple or a banana. Those are easy to tote around with you and eat wherever. At lunch, you say you eat in a cefeteria - is this a college cafeteria, which offers several choices? Instead of going for the pizza, could you grab something like a turkey sandwich instead? My company cafeteria has goodies like pizza and cookies, but it also offers healthy sandwiches and salads. Everyday, I make a conscious choice to eat the salad or sandwich rahter than the pizza. It's like Allie said, it's a mindset. Losing weight is going to be more saitsfactory than those few minutes of eating junk food. We're not trying to be hard on you - just trying to give you some motivation! You can do it!

Another breakfast suggestion that is even quicker/easier that I've made a couple of times is a South Beach Diet Breakfast wrap. 200 calories; loaded with protein and fiber. Stick it in the microwave for a couple minutes and it's ready to eat. Pretty hard to be any easier than that!

I thought about what you guys said today...It made sense...especially the part about "if you have time to eat junk, you have the time to eat right"...I think my main problem is that if I packed something healthy from home, I'll be okay...sometimes the school cafeteria has good stuff...sometimes it doesnt...They always have salads but some of them are so bland bleahh!! It's not really a cafeteria it's more like a itsy bitsy teeny weeny cafe...but ur right there r healthier things to eat...

If you're really craving chocolate, have some chocolate. Otherwise, you'll start eating a ton of other stuff and at the end, you'll still be craving chocolate.
The trick is in knowing the right way to have some chocolate.
Sit down at a table -- none of this grab & go, eating in front of the TV, etc. Sit down at a table with a glass of water or skim milk (or wine) and have a few sips. Then, have a Hershey kiss -- but don't chew it. Just suck on it like a gobstopper and it should last you a good few minutes. Then, sip the rest of your drink.
*That* is the way to satisfy a chocolate craving without going overboard. My Mom taught me that, and I love it.

Totally agree!
I've never been one to crave specific things often at all - and I learned early on that if I'm craving something, I need to satisfy the craving otherwise I end up eating whatever I can find and then I'm still craving whatever it was. My cravings are usually more like for pad thai or vegetables. Very rarely is it for something like chocolate.
I also find that there are particular foods that trigger cravings and by learning that, I can plan. For instance, I don't have a sweet tooth at all (have to search high & low in the kitchen to find anything sweet as I don't even buy stuff like that), however, I find that if I eat a meal of mainly carbohydrates, specifically pasta, I want something sweet afterwards. So, if I'm at home, I make sure that I make some sugar free jello. If I'm out with others, I hope that they order dessert so I can snag a bite of theirs because that's enough to satisfy the craving.
I think that you need to listen to your body and act upon it. I've read that when you crave something, it's because your body needs it. Just be reasonable when you're doing that.

Trust me, I have the biggest sweet tooth in the world, and you can still stay on track. My secret is to just stock up on sweet lowfat treats to satisfy my cravings. My favorites are Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches (140 calories, and they come in chocolate, chocolate peanut butter, etc), and the 100 calorie packs of Oreo crisps and Chips Ahoy crisps. These are all really sweet, but they don't destroy my diet. Lowfat pudding is good too. I also find that I'm able to resist sweets throughout the day if I just tell myself I can have a Skinny Cow after dinner. That way I don't get that feeling of "I'll never get anything sweet again!" because I have a little treat to look forward to.

Okay, the past few days have been kinda iffy, so I'll try again. Since I don't have the time to prepare food (and since I don't have the money to buy food) I kind of asked (actually begged) my mom to make me my lunch everyday, kind of like schooldays, lol. So she agreed and today she made me a tuna salad sandwich for lunch, and breakfast was a kind of indian-style potato sandwich. Didn't have time to get a glass of milk on the way out this morning, so I settled for water...I'll have milk when I get home, I guess...As for my sweet tooth...It's controlled right now, but then again, it's like 9 AM....Just wait until the afternoon hits...
Oh, just for the record, the tuna salad has no mayo or n e thing like that...I like my tuna plain...and it's the lite tuna too...
As for exercise...I don't really plan on doing any today...unless exercising my brain while studying counts...

My pants didn't feel tight today...Which is weird coz I haven't been doing anything out of the ordinary...Except eating more veggies and stuff...I'm trying to limit my chocolate intake...but my brother has this whole box of chocolate he's selling as a fundraiser...So that doesn't explain why my pants are loose...I guess maybe I shouldn't question good luck :)

My diet has been horrible...we've had bake sales and valentine's day sales and so there r all these pink frosted cakes and cookies...Me, with the sweet tooth that I have, am now sick of sweet stuff! These next 2 weeks aren't going to be good so I'll have to get back to it after a while...

Don't get back to it after awhile, get back to it now! Tell yourself the cookies are stale and you're sick of them anyways. The frosting is way to sugary to be at all good. And pink is a stupid color anyways! Valentines day sucks and there's no way you should support it by buying cookies. Tell yourself anything you can make yourself believe. But trust me, I'm telling you, the cookies are stale and don't taste good enough to be worth the calories!!

LOL You guys are funny...Welllll these past few days have been bad...really really bad...I wish I had time to check this thread before I ate all those cookies and cakes and brownies and stuff....urrgghhh...mom made a fresh batch of brownies coz it was my friend's birthday, so there's leftovers at home!....plus I went to a nerd convention this weekend...so I had no choice but to accept what they gave me...and I did something really really really really bad today...gulp....
you ready to hear this??
ugh....okay....I shall confess
now gimme a second....
I HAD A MCDONALDS BURGER TODAY!!!
*gasp* I KNOW!!!!
ughhh I'm feeling really really guilty bout it...especially now that I have to come home and talk about....
In my defence, I was craving McDonald's fries...and I havent had McDonalds in like over 3 years! So I went in and I was like okay I'll just have a small fries...and then my friend's like "Ohhh i'll have nuggets" and I was like dammmittt she's making me hungry!!! So I bought a McFish coz i like fish....n the burger was kinda small too...I mean geezzzzz you call that a burger????
Atleast I had O.J instead of like Pepsi or somethin....and atleast I didn't get desert....right? RIGHT?????

On the plus side...Someone told me I lost weight! weird...especially since I thought my pants were extra tight....The other day I had lunch at Olive Garden with some friends...and the portions are big so when you're talking n stuff it's hard to realize when to stop eating so by the time I was done I was stuffed....When I went to the bathroom with my friend, she was making me laugh while I was zipping up my pants...and they wouldn't close!!!! It's hard to zip up your pants while you're laughing your head off and your tummy is full! Maybe those pants shrunk or something....Florida weather can be weird...

You can appear to have gain or lost a little weight just based on what you are wearing and how well it happens to fit. Well fitting clothes make you appear slimmer. Clothes that are too big make you look fat. Clothes that are too small make you look HUGE. I wouldn't refine too much on comments about your appearance when you know that there hasn't been a significant change.
You know in your heart whether you are making healthy food choices or poor ones. It's tough to make healthy choices, particularly when you are not the chef. But not impossible. You need to ask yourself what your highest priorities are, and put your efforts there. If healthy eating is not a top priority (and there may be reasons why it isn't) you won't do it. Just recognize that there will be consequences and be willing to live with them. (Do consider, that if your cash is strapped, as you say, you really can't afford to have to buy clothes in a larger size. It might be worthwhile to splurge a little on healthy foods to avoid having to spend a lot on larger clothes. If your clothes become too large due to a succesful nutrition plan, you can always take them in. Buying larger clothes never is never a happy experience, except maybe maternity clothes under the right circumstances!)
If you decide that it is a high priority (even if not the highest), then there are strategies.
1. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO EAT LEFTOVERS IN THE HOUSE. Let the baker eat them. Repeat to yourself the old hackneyed mantra "nothing tastes as good as slim feels".
2. If you want to go to McD's, educate yourself about the choices. A small fry to indulge a craving once in awhile might be OK. But that's no excuse for eating a burger and fish sandwich that you didn't really want. IIRC, the fish sandwich at McD's is much worse than the burger. Deep fat fried. With tartar sauce. Fat up the wazoo. If the fries weren't satisfying, and you were with friends who were eating more, they have healthier options. That mandarin chicken salad is not bad at all. And I love the fruit and yogurt salad. It even indulges a sweet tooth.
3. Olive Garden and the like. Very tasty food. Very large portions. One strategy is to ask the server to bring a doggie bag when the food is served. Immediately put what you don't want now in the container and close it so you don't see it. Lunch tomorrow, maybe lunch for two days!
Also, if the people you are with agree, ask that the server skip the bread basket. If the others want the bread, at least have them put it on the other side of the table, far away from you. It's embarassing to have to reach over to get it or ask somebody to give it to you.
If you decide that healthy eating is more than you can handle now, just do the best you can and don't beat yourself up about it. Motivation will come when you are ready.

Thanks, Maine-iac! :) You are awesome! These past few days I've been extremely tired...Like, for example yesterday I came home at 1 pm but I had virtually no sleep that whole weekend, so instead of eating I just slept...So I'm writing this post with 18 hours of restful sleep. I slept at 1 pm and woke up at 7 am this morning. And normally I choose sleep over food because I know I won't get time to sleep at any other time...and it's hard to eat right when I don't even have time to sleep right...I didn't get Olive garden food in a bag coz I was going to be out all day, I didn't want to have smelly pasta with me while I was in a suit all day...Next week will be better because I won't have a ton of extra curricular work to do, and I can just focus on schoolwork and nothing else. HEhee yeah motivation will come when I'm ready...right now I try to do the best I can...I'm not tooo concerned bout the weight right now...I just wish I could change my habits, that's all...I know the second I change my habits, it'll go off....

You can get the doggie bag anyway. Give it to a friend if they are going to be heading home (it's not gross if you bag it up BEFORE you start eating :)) or if nobody is going to a spot with refrigeration, just bag it up and "forget it" on the table. It still gets the part you don't want to eat out of your sight!
Hang in there. You can get where you want to be in your own good time.

Why don't you tell your mom you're on a diet?
Or, could your mom stand to lose a few pounds too? That helped out a lot when I first started a few years ago. My mother and I did it together. Made it a whole lot easier b/c it eliminated unhealthy meals/portions. If she doesn't need/want to, then you have to do it yourself. If you know what's happening, then change it. Put back some of the food. Fix your own plate. Stuff like that.

Yes they are suppose to be tighter after having them dried in the dryer!!! It's usually better if you hang dry them before they are completely dry from the dryer. :)

Today wasn't THAT bad...
Breakfast: An orange, a banana, a small vanilla chai tea, and a fresh croissant.
Lunch: It's this asian-style dish that mom made with coconut milk (please don't pull out that thread somewhere that talked about coconut milk) and chicken. You're supposed to eat it with noodles. I think it's Burmese. ANYHOO....
Snack: another banana. I finished all the oranges in the house otherwise I would have had an orange too...Oh, and I had an oreo cookie....Just one...made me sick ugh...Oh and I had a few glazed donut holes in between...And coffee (with splenda and milk instead of cream and sugar)....hmmm what else?
No dinner...it's 11 pm and i am hungry...but I always eat a late dinner and then sleep...so today I'm trying to cut that...Didn't eat dinner but I've had a lot of sugar today so....I'll starve it out...and then have a good breakfast tomorrow...
Past few days have been okay. Spring break! Been so tired. The other day I just had breakfast and I was so tired I slept the entire day away...No lunch, no dinner, no snacks...I think I slept for like 10 or 11 hours...I just feel exhausted! I'm too young to feel this tired...I've always slept a lot...On average I sleep about 9 hours a night...and I still feel tired...I know I heard somewhere that if you oversleep you feel tired...But no matter how much sleep I get, I always feel tired! Like I'll come home and sleep my eyes out til the next morning.

I think I slept for 11 hours. Woke up tired. Today morning I had a lil more than half of a cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry C.c. a cup of hot cocoa, and later on I had a 16 oz. cuppa coffee. Can you bring your own packs of healthier snack foods? (healthy cereal bars, low-fat cheese in individual serving packs, pistachio nuts in a little snack zip-loc, etc.) Then you could just go for your backpack when hunger strikes rather than the machines with their less than healthy choices. You'd probably save a couple of bucks too since vending machines are generally a rip-off unless your school subsidizes them.
LoneGirl

Maine-iac makes a good point. You can't blame the vending machines for poor eating habits. We all have vending machines at work, but some of us choose not to use them. It's my personal rule - I refuse to use vending machines and always have healthy snacks in my work bag.

We had a bake sale...I was selling this pineapple cream cheese cake and there was a ton left over and I didn't take it home I gave it back to the person who made it! I didn't eat any donuts...I didn't go to the vending machines either....oh and I sold almost half of my chocolate bars! Yay yay yay! less for me...so even though i was bad and had a chocolate bar and a cookie (I only had one cookie, while everyone else was pigging out)...it was one of those cookies you get from Publix....yumm-o!!!!

Today was okay so far...I had a donut...BUT I had my latte made with skim milk and no sugar...and I got decaf just because I didn't want to go twitching around like a Syko. As for exercise...well I've been lugging carton boxes all around campus, so does that count? It just has to count for somethin...!!! Breakfast was okay...Cream cheese with homemade wholewheat bread...a ton of fiber...I don't know how much fiber it's got...the only reason I know it has a lotta fiber is...well...you know!! I had strawberry jam with it too coz I wanted to eat somethin sweet...I don't think I'll be able to eat lunch today...I'll probably be home my like 7-ish so thats when I'll have lunch/dinner...

Thai food is officially my new favorite food. Either that or I've had the fortune of going to two really good Thai restaurants in one month.
Today for lunch I had shrimp with mixed veggies..Veggie soup...and for dessert a few slices of pineapple...The serving was big..and I made sure I ate all my veggies first since I like veggies a lot and since I wanted to get my required daily servings of veggies...
LoL the fortune cookie part was fun...I can't remember exactly what it said...but my friend told me to add "in bed" after I read it...It just made it even more funnier. Something bout responsibility or role or something I can't remember...LoL...
Had another decaf iced mocha latte (two in one day...yikes!) 'cept this one was a small one...
Went shopping today right after lunch and boy I think I worked off what I ate for lunch...coz it's 10:43...and I am HUNGRY! I won't eat anything though...I'm *TRYING* not to eat late dinners...coz that's what gets me...eating dinner at 11 pm...

Today for breakfast I had homemade wholewheat bread with cream cheese and strawberry jam. (I think I used bout 1 oz. of cream cheese which had 100 calories and one tablespoon of jam which had like 50 calories..) and then I had a few strawberries and a few Algerian dates too...yummo...Today is a big day so lunch will have to be something I bring from home...Dinner is gonna be a buffet tonight...I'll be lookin out for the salads! :) I will stay away from the cake...

Lunch: NONE!!! I bought a subway sandwich to eat for later since I was going to be out for a long time...and they got my order wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I only found out when I sat down to eat a couple of hours later... So lunch was a chocolate chip cookie, Rasperry Iced tea, and a few dates...
Dinner: I stayed away from the cake!! I did I did I did!!! Had salad, cheese, crackers, fruit, crystal light instead of soda...
Good day (except for the cookie--but I had no lunch!)
Grrrr I'm still angry about my order being wrong....

What was so bad on the order you couldn't eat it or pick it off?
I'm surprised. One of the things I like about Subway is that you watch them make the sandwich, so you know it's reasonably fresh, and you know what's on it. Do they have a different set-up where you are?

Sometimes if there are several people in line, they can get the sandwiches mixed up. The person making the sandwich wraps it, then sends it down to the person at the register. If there are lots of people, it's easy for the person at the register to accidentally switch sandwiches. I've had it happen to me!

Fruit is healthy and nutritious, but it also has a lot of sugar, which burns off quickly and easily, leaving you in a sugar crash. It would probably help to throw some protein and/or fiber into that breakfast. (high fiber cereal, whole grain toast, an egg, low-fat cheese, some nuts, etc.) Then you wouldn't be so hungry so quickly, and have to resort to Cheetos, which have no value at all. And turn your tongue orange, to boot! ;)

You could also try putting some peanut butter on an apple or banana - I like to do that sometimes when I know my next meal is still a couple hours away because I know an apple alone won't keep me full for long.

Kudos, though, for picking whole fruit over juice! That gets you some fiber and slows the sugar crash down a little bit. (And it's MUCH easier to put PB on an apple than on a glass of apple juice!)

I'm eating a lot of fruit these days. Yesterday I had a pear and one and a half oranges. So these days the veggie and fruit intake is going good. I've started to do some stretching exercises in the morning while brushing my teeth. (LoL I know that's nothing, but ya gotta start somewhere!)
I've already got fruit and PB sammiches packed for today. Bananas, oranges, dates. There was no wholewheat bread at home so I had to take what I could find...Ah welll...I tried!!

Actually, it sounds a bit like too much of a good thing. That much pain is going to make it hard to motivate yourself to get back to it. Next time maybe take it a little easier so you won't dread doing the exercising the next time. You can always work up to a higher level over time.
But - still, two thumbs up for making sure you did something!

Yeah, a certain weight may look fat or skinny on people depending on their height, but I believe a size 6 is a size 6 no matter how tall or short you are. And a size 6 ain't too wide!
Maine-iac

If you are size six, then you won't generally look fat to other people. But healthy eating and exercise habits will serve you well, so kudos for thinking about it.
And you are absolutely correct, that you will look slimmer in a skirt in a size that fits rather than squeezing into a size too small. Even a small person looks fat when they roll over the top of a too tight waistband!

I'm okay in some areas and in some areas I'm a total hippo...But it depends on the clothing...like sometimes I'll be an 8 for the pants size and a 10 for the top...or a 6-8 for the top and a Medium for the pants size...it really depends on the item and brand...

That's certainly something you have to look out for as you get older. I remember when I was little, I was so proud every year when I went clothes shopping and I had gone up a size. Then comes a point where you realize "wait a minute, I shouldn't be going up a size every year anymore....."!

Just be sure that it's really excess fat causing the change in size and not the natural progression from junior sizes to misses's sizes that most of us go through in the teens/early 20's.
Though some women stay flat all their lives, it's natural for most of us to round out a bit. And that's a good thing! ;)
Gretchen
04-04-2006, 11:38 AM
And if you are really that small (at least to some of us!), I'm guessing your weight/height are on the low side of average. That means that you require fewer calories to support your ideal weight, so it will be harder to get under that number to actually lose weight. So don't get too discouraged if your attempts at weight loss seem to have slower results than for those of us that started out at a size 20 - unfortunately for you, that's just the way it's going to be.
You are absolutely right to be thinking about eating healthy, even if it doesn't lose weight for you. While being small is nice for aesthetics, the health part should really be the main reason for keeping weight in check and eating right. Good for you for thinking about those things at a young age - most of us really didn't, and that's why the problems later in life!
