View Full Version : Potential new course 2 supplement
course2megamanual

Hello all,
I just took course 2 without having a background in any of the material. The books for course 2 are great, but it takes a lot of time to read them all, and once the readings have been completed a student needs a condensed yet detailed outline of the important concepts, and their associated graphs as well as random facts and tricks for the concept type questions that aren’t included in any of the manuals I have seen and can only be learned by spending hours and hours doing problems. In short, I think my notes would provide valuable, time saving, information to supplement current study manuals available. If there was sufficient demand I would like to offer my notes to current course 2 takers. I am considering a nominal price reflecting the fact that the notes are not intended to be a consummate outline such as CSM or to teach the material, and cheap enough that you could buy it with your own $$ if your company doesn’t want to pay. I wouldn’t include any interest theory either. The current material is plenty good enough.
What do you guys think? Just shut up and study for course 3? Yeah, were interested? What?

You could follow actuarybert's lead who did something similiar, see here:
http://www.actuary.ca/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7902
You'll notice a number of free study info/guides/summaries in the download section of actuary.ca's homepage. They're all provided for free by the authors - who are other students.
I don't want to discourage you from charging whatever you feel your notes are worth. However I do think we would all benefit if we started putting our notes together for future students. We'll provide the download resources for anyone who's interested.
are you a troll???? :P
F-ing Hilarious Pillow! I almost spit my coffee out when I read your response to this clown's post!

I didn't know that. Why hasn't anybody said anything about these in the discussions? That's cool, but I don't have the time to codify and type up the notes with color graphs and all unless there is some remuneration involved. :D
Too bad, because I have everything you could possibly think of in these things, and condensed out the BS to leave just what you need to know. I may not be able to pass them, but I can teach others.
Why am I a Troll? Are Batten/ Mahler etc.. trolls? Is their time more valuable than mine? (of course it is :D )
Avi??? Is that you?
Psssst...Avi = course2megamanual Pass it on!
I was wondering that too. I thought it looked like it might be me, even though it's not.

No? Then is it retaker? Or LPorter33? Those are the only Course 2 experts I can think of.

It's definitely not me. I hate taking notes and no one could ever read my handwriting anyway. I was thinking it sounded a lot like Retaker. Also, I would hardly call myself an "expert."

I used to call myself an expert, but I seem to have forgotten a lot of that material already. I wouldn't disuade the student from trying to make money off the notes, but a lot more potential proofreaders would use them if they are free.
A lot of professors have written books. Many of them start out by distributing trial copies to their classes as partial replacements for the textbooks students buy for the class. The students point out a lot of mistakes and point out sections that need more work. Sort of a symbiotic relationship. I doubt with all the study manuals out there that your first draft student study manual is going to be a best-seller of any sort. The Arch manual for c#3 appears to have started out much as you suggest doing, however.

Was it me? :judge:
I am abandoning "retaker" anyway. I will be getting a new course 4 name. :smoke:

What is going on with Avi and Drzy, anyway???? :o
What do you mean Course2megamanual would lose customers if he were me. You mean people don't like me? :crying: You mean some close minded actuarial students with withered right hemispheres of their brains don't appreciate my clever sarcasm? :crying: :furious:

Apply your own advice here, homey g. Not everything is so serious. You aren't the only one with the inflated right hemisphere, you know.

So let me get this straight......You just took course 2, which more likely than not means you only have one exam passed without a guarentee that you actually passed the exam your are claiming to have expertise in and your trying to SELL a study manual??
I think Pillow said it best:
are you a troll???? :P

I'm officially getting rid of this alias. There is way too much hostility directed towards it. YOu will never see a post from retaker again.
Sorry if I offended any students or otherwise (grayhimm) while using this alias. I was only bullsh_ting half the time anyway, and as far as I am concerned complaining is our right, besides although it may not have appeared that way on the surface, I have always tried to be constructive in my b_tching. From what I have seen this is a good profession, and most of you are good sports, and don't have withered right hemispheres at all. So I say to thee, farwell. Have a beer on me.

PS Pillow might be the coolest if it wasn't for that stupid picture. :D

Apparently your "right hemisphere" is withered as well. I wasn't claiming to not be a student, just not closed minded, but I still am not impressed with your so-called clever sarcasm.
Good luck under your new name, whatever you may choose. May I suggest including a reference to your right hemisphere? You seem to think pretty highly of your own.
By the way, Pillow, I find absolutely nothing wrong with your picture. It's a perfect selection of the sweet person it represents.

Hi there everyone,
I have 5 pieces of old coffee-stained loose-leaf paper with poor handwritten formulas written on it, and some smeared index cards which I'm willing to sell to the highest bidder. I could also, at no extra charge of course, copy formulas out of whatever books you choose. :-?
