I just found out that my application for VEE credit for finance
didn't get approved so I need to take care of it on my own.
I would like to get this done as soon as I can (before 05/18) so I can concentrate on my 3rd exam. (I had an investment course from a well-known B-school and did very well, but didn't have a corporate finance course).
I am leaing towards either NEAS or CPCU, however, to take
NEAS, I will have to wait until May to start and finish it in July.
Can anyone share with me his/her experience with CPCU?
I went on their website and am a bit confused with it.
can I just take the exam administered by Prometric during anytime
between 04/15-06/15 without taking a course, meaning doing homework like in the NEAS way? Would appreciate any information.

I don't know anything about CPCU, I did NEAS. All I know is that I really didn't have to put that much effort into the homework and studying for the final, and I still passed. Even though you have to wait, the NEAS route is a piece of cake (unless they have changed it) - and you can pass with minimal (if no) effort.

A couple points you should know:

* Unfortunately, in order to get the VEE finance credit via CPCU you must take the class as well. The exam by itself won't be enough. (I emailed SOA about this)

* NEAS is probably less work than the CPCU route.... however, the quality of the CPCU material and examination is much higher.

I am probably going to go with CPCU, just because the quality is much higher and because I am in P&C anyway.

Hey Gay_Actuary, so the NEAS for corporate finance is easy? What was your background? The SOA too rejected my application for 3 comibinations of courses at my institution. My background in corporate finance is pretty decent.

Do you think I have to buy and read the textbook at all? Or should I just do the homework? What is the final exam like? Multiple Choices? How should I study for it then? Thanks.

I'll chime in here. The NEAS corporate finance course was a breeze. I think it should be a cinch for anybody with at least a basic understanding of the material from FM (however, you won't need a financial calculator for this course). I did use the textbook for the reading assignments. The final exam was multiple choice. They released some 60 questions online as a practice for the final and half of those questions wound up word-for-word on the actual final.

I'd say, after doing the homework and spending a few hours doing the practice exam a few times, you should sail through the exam.

Did anyone have to pay out of pocket for NEAS? Does anyone know how much it costs?

$295 for the first course, $245 for the second, and $195 for all future courses.

I was just wondering, if you go the NEAS route, and you pass, do you automatically get credit, or you have to put in a separate application + fees ( i thought that was $50 bucks more for the application to approve) and then you get the complete credit. If someone can clarify, that would be great.

Once you pass the NEAS course you have to submit an application for VEE credit to the SOA. The application is http://eande.soa.org/vee/pdf/VEE%20Candidate%20Credit%20Application.pdf and yes, there are extra fees.

Haha... you could always do CFA Course One & Course Two haha... apparently that's "equivalent" to the other options.

That is complete and total bull.

Edit: I'm not saying what you said is bull. I'm saying if that's true, that is complete and total bull.

The exam itself is hard enough. If you can pass it, with or without a class, why not just give the credit?
