I'm wondering wether the study note titled "Credibility" on the SOA website (http://www.soa.org/eande/spring03_catalog/spring03_course4.html) is covered in Mahler's Notes for Course 4....i'm getting his Spring 02 edition....would i need to print this Credibility note as well?

thanks.

I think you should print it and read it, but I don't know whether the material is covered in the Mahler notes as well...The note is a replacement for the Survival Analysis textbook which was pulled from the syllabus beginnig this sitting.

The Credibility study note is by Mahler-Dean. It is a good reference for credibility topics, so I would print and read at least parts of it and use KPW for the rest. The Klugman study note is separate (and has # next to it to signify a change).

The Mahler-Dean study note on Credibility on Course 4 is chapter 8 of Foundations of Casualty Actuarial Science. Many people will find it much easier to absorb than Loss Models.

My Study Guides formed a basis for this chapter written by Gary Dean and myself.

All of the Credibility material is covered in great detail with many, many sample problems in my Course 4 Study Guides.

Real life question:

You have medical experience data, avg pure premium, say, for a group in both CY 2001 and CY2002 (assume the year is complete). In addition, you have similiar data for the "population at large" -- your company's pool data. You are familiar with various credibility schemes for combining these two data sources to calculate a credibility-adjusted Pure Premium _within_ each year. Discuss methods or references for weighting both the 2001 and 2002 pure premiums to yield a better prediction of 2003 pure premiums.

Most honorable Mahler,
Do you have any idea when your study guides will be updated and ready for purchase?

Sounds like course 8 L&H to me.

Ok peeps, looking for a little help on explaining the syllibus readings.

What does the new study note (4-23-03#) by Klugman represent? Is it new material added, or is it replacing some of the older readings much like the Credibility paper?

Anyone know when the updated ASM C4 manual will be out?

It's a reference for Course 4. It isn't optional! It replaces, in part, the Klein/Moeschberger reading.

I submitted the fifth edition of the ASM manual last week. It should be available pretty soon, depending on how long it takes to print.
