I know this topic has been talked to death, but I wanted to see what people's recent opinions were...why doesn't the SOA adopt a similar strategy to the CAS as far as candidates being able to mail their answers books/answer sheets/whatever home during the exam? I have a seen response to this being that the SOA wants to be able to recycle questions, but I don't see how this should be the one thing holding them back from envoking this type of thing. I think that if candidates had, say, an extra copy of a bubble sheet to put their answers on, and we given maybe 5 extra minutes at the end of the exam to fill it in (or just no extra time, and if you get it, great, if not, too bad) these sheets could be mailed home so that candidates could have an idea of how they did after the exam. Yes, I am certainly one of those who goes over the exam in my head for days, wondering if I did a certain question right, and tortuting myself over it. I've always been that way. I think if we were able to do something like that, a couple of things would happen :
1.) nobody would attempt to "take answers out of the exam room" (i.e. via calculator, or any other illegal way)...not that I condone this, I just know it happens
2.) maybe the actuarial students as a whole might be a little more relaxed during the "off" time (not the exam committee's goal, I realize) because they would be able to compare with other students either just their letter answers, or compare to the preliminary answer key, if published.
3.) would cause syncronicity (sp?) to a certain extent with the CAS.
I am writing Course C, and hopefully will pass, so this would (if ever put in place) not impact me in the least. That said, I am not one of those people who wishes things to be harder or who will ever claim "exams used to be much harder when I was writing" as many of my actuarial superiors joke with me. I want things to be, no easier, just more tolerable in the exam process, and I think this one thing is feasible. Correct me if I am wrong though.
Thanks for reading my somewhat rant, and I look forward to opinions...
Good luck all this sitting!
