I spent the $80 for Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 with USB GPS....what a piece of crap that was....I used it to drive around Chicago while I was looking for apartments and it made me late for about half of my appointments...It in no way compares to the mercedes navigation system...not that I expected it to....but i atleast wanted it to lead me in the right direction

Here is why I didn't like it:
You really need another person to control it while you drive
It doesn't recalculate your route if you make a stop or a wrong turn
It does not know what direction you are facing (if you are going north, it will give you directions as if you were going south then tell you that you are "off route")
"Turn right in 100 yards... off route"
"Exit left in 0.3 miles...off route"
"off route"
"off route"
"off route"
"off route"
"lost GPS signal"

ahhhhh...it drove me nuts
anyone have a similar experience?

GPS units should have a clear line of sight to the sky... They also arn't the best in downtown areas where tall buildings block out portions of the sky.

It's a microsoft product, what did you expect?

Try Delorme StreetAtlas 2006. I've been using it since it was SA2000. It's wonderful. Your current GPS should still work fine with it.

So let me get this straight. You were driving around while surfing on your laptop?
