View Full Version : ignore list

Wouldn't it be nice if we were older...

Some other boards I've seen have a way for users to add other users to an ignore list. Posts from the twits then show up as a single line "This user is on your ignore list click to view post".

I looked for a MOD at phpbb.com, but didn't see one :(

...But I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

Great suggestion Cho Da.

Another benefit: we could then rank people according to how many folks put them on the ignore list. :argue:

I'm assuming that was intentionally vague.

No "Mulan"?When I created the poll, I put her on it, but must have taken her off along with Gandalf when I realized I could only have 15 choices and I still needed to ut 42 on it. :viola:

I can only think of one poster who, when he doesn't take his meds (which keep him sleeping), writes or pastes four scroll-downs worth of useless drivel (mostly about his own accomplishments or Chicken-Littling that the end of the pension world is coming), then insults everyone who dares to disagree with him.

Is that less vague, Master?

Ah, that was who you meant.

What about the converse: an "ignore me" list of posters who can't see what I've posted?

If you ever went to the pension forum, you would have to include A*** L***

Glenn,

Have you considered adding the above code (or something similar) for killfiles / twit filters?

They're pretty common in newsgroup readers, and frankly it would be nice not to have to sift through some of the nonsense to get to the relevant posts.

Any thoughts?

Would the ignorer just not see the posts made by his designated ignorees? I think that would be confusing - leading to misinterpreted later comments, etc., because each person wouldn't see the same thread in front of him.

If I had a magic wand, the change I would make would be to be able to designate individual threads as not triggering the the little orange "there are new messages here" indicator on the main Index page, but that's no biggie.

What I would hope for is what Cho Da originally suggested, i.e., "This user is on your ignore list. click to view post".

Is scrolling past that any easier than just scrolling past the putative twit's post itself?

(BTW, I think Dave Barry would say that "Putative Twits" would be a pretty good name for a band.)

The reason they go on the twit list is that it takes multiple page downs to get past their diatribes. (Is the word diatribe PG13? :-? )

That would be a problem at Brunchma, but here, posts are a much more reasonable length.

Other than he whose name we don't mention. It also make reading a thread much easier by skipping the inane Π posts as every other reply

While we're at it. the hypothetical twit filter could even ignore entire threads initiated by the twit.

42
03-17-2003, 10:12 AM
I already do that. It's fairly easy to do, since you can see who started the thread without opening it, but it still cuts into my posting time (which is ever so important), so I'll second that motion. All in favor: raise your hands.

I think you underestimate the number of threads which quickly deviate into something the original poster never intented.
