Yes, but I think the typical actuary would own a stereo.

I played in a bridge tournament this weekend. The winner of one session was .. another actuary I know, partnered up with a math professor. 2nd place in a different session was .. a retired actuarial math professor. In fact it was none other than our own Newt Bowers, Mr. Actuarial Mathematics himself. And I managed a 2nd place in one session. I can't tell you how many actuaries I know that play bridge.

I don't know if Newt owns a stereo, but I would imagine so.

I don't have any tattoos. I would probably exemplify some of the conservative tendencies, although I usually stare at OTHER people's feet when I talk, not my own.

I work out 4-6 days a week, recently it has only been 3. I can only bench 140. Dumbells, havn't used the bar in a while. I did have to have a hernia operation. Doctor stated recovery is 8-12 weeks. 8-12 weeks my ass, more like 45-50 weeks before you can return to lifting. Decent at basketball, and i can hold my own against non-college players.

Oh yeah,
unlike most actuaries i have known or met, i enjoy spending money, not being ultra conservative. Might be a phase though.

Well I'm not an actuary yet...but I do have one exam passed so I'm on my way.

For starters, I'm a girl. I know that's not unusual, but I know the majority of math nerds are guys. If you saw me, you probably wouldn't think of me as your typical math nerd. I used to be an athlete (I played softball and bowled until I graduated high school), but I'm still in shape. I also have a bellybutton ring. I've been called "hot" before...but I'm not so sure I agree with that.

I'm also probably the biggest Disney freak you'll ever know. If I could I would live there. I own a Disney Visa card, an annual pass, and I'm a DVC (Disney Vacation Club) member. Basically it's a timeshare with Disney. I've gone twice already in the past year (even once in January while studying for Exam P in February and still managed to pass), with another trip coming up in May.

I love my soaps (Days of Our Lives and Passions) and even more I love American Idol! I was the girl who spent the whole 3 hours voting for Clay Aiken (only getting 11 votes in!) the night before the crowning of the Season 2 American Idol. Of course when Ruben was announced the winner, I screamed at my TV and also probably almost broke it by throwing the remote at it.

I'm sure I could probably think of a million more things that would qualify as a non-stereotypical actuary...but I'm not going to bore everybody.

Besides the metrosexual part, this is what I aspire to enjoy until 30, and for the nice car to be a Porcshe 911 (used). All of the actuaries talking about the tats that they have is kind of what I expect from an actuary. It was never the dumb people that I knew that had tats but they were sometimes a little odd growing up, it was the ones that were sometimes a little odd but always surprisingly really smart. There were also the artistic, rebel and criminal type too.

And after 30 then what? (I'm 37)

Shoot for a new 911, they aren't THAT expensive :)

I thought that was the time when I would have to think about slowing down my life. 30-33

To be honest after hearing about family life from a co-workers perspective, it does not seem as relaxing and fun as I thought of.

Any actuaries with a Ferrari?

Actually, there are times when I think we're more stereotypical teenage or pre-pubescent girls. We have giggling fits that go on forever. A lot of them are really silly too!

Me too

And like Viola, I have a non-ear peircing .. though I'm beginning to doubt it's in the same place as hers. ;)

no tatoos, no non-ear piercings.

On the other hand, I did go to the #1 work hard/party hard university; I did not do an 'actuarial' major; I do competitive Latin ballroom dancing; I use my study time to go to the gym; I'm dating a guy 10 yrs my senior (so I have to be hot ;)); I live downtown (2 blocks away from work); my best friend is an I-banking crack-head (literally); I know how to wear stilettos; I can't do arithmetic in my head (but do not carry around a calculator); I have no interest in advanced/theoretical math; I'm Russian but have no accent; I know close to nothing about programming; I like puzzles but don't care about how things work (mechanically); I have a terrible memory as far as life experience is concerned; I don't like insurance pricing/valuation/reserving; I swear a LOT...
Oh, and I flipped a car once.

I'm just doing this actuarial thing bc it pays good money while I figure out what I REALLY want to do
hmmm...I guess I should get on that since I only have 2 exams left.

Read somewhere (can't remember where, unfortunately) that the typical Meyers-Briggs result for actuaries is INTJ.

I'm an ESFP.

im asian. HAH.

okay, i have tats (2), piercings (8), and i like the va-jay-jay. well, the last one isnt so uncommon except that i'm female too.
Call me a moran You're a moran! ... but I don't know what that means.

As for me, I am only non-stereotypical in the following ways:
I have a different thing for lunch each day
I procrastinate
I would much rather be a novelist, though I majored in physics in college
I don't like hanging out with other actuaries

Ever heard of the internet? It can answer lots of things. Especially slang terms for anatomy.

I'm dating a guy 10 yrs my senior (so I have to be hot

I always hated this phrase...does it mean 10 years younger or older?

If he's 10 years older - the "so I have to be hot" statement makes no sense. If he's 10 years young - the "so I have to be hot" statement has some validity.

It could be you are both super ugly/lonely/losers - or any combination of the 3.

I think, keeping with stereotypes, since he's older, he must have some serious $$$, and so he's looking to date a younger, hotter girl who he keeps extra happy with the $$$.

Yes, but when you get older - your spectrum for "hot chicks" widens. Then you have to ask yourself - are they REALLY that hot in the first place?

I've seen so many older guys (40+) say they have a hot young chick (25 or under) that I don't really consider all that hot (i'm 24).

I can't wait till I am older and rich so I can snag up some hot bimbo. Not that I haven't dated hot bimbos, but only ones my age. Which means by the time we are both thirty, she's not a hot bimbo anymore, and all of the sudden I am too good for her (we all know men age better than women, generally speaking). When I am 35 with some money, then I can date a 21 year old hot bimbo. With a 14 year old age differential she should always remain relatively hot compared to me. In other words by the time she's uglier than me I'll almost be dead, or at the very least impotent, so I won't care. Yep..that's the life. I can't wait.

As you get older, the availability of really hot chicks to you shrinks to about zero (all wealth equal). It's only natural to adjust the definition.

But as you get older, the percentage of younger girls that start to look pretty hot increases, as does the total number of younger girls.

Yeah. It's all abot the Hot Chick Spectrum. I learned about it in science class. R-O-Y-G-B-I-V. The hot chick spectrum.

R - Really freaking hot

O - Obviously doable

Y - Yikes she fine

G - Gorgeous

B - Beautiful

I - I'd put a hurtin on her

V - Very lickable

It is a scientific fact that once a male turns forty the visible hot spectrum is expanded to be : N-C-K-R-O-Y-G-B-I-V-BF-S-P .....which has been expanded to include:

N - Needs a boob job

C - Could do her good to jog once in a while to get rid of her a$$

K - Kind of acceptable

BF - Butter Face

S - Skinny but still not that hot

P - Plastic surgery candidate

More than likely it's the lack of wrinkles they find most enticing. Even if someone is hot, their skin texture changes as they get older and no amount of working out will help that.

I never intend to be impotent, but at least I might lose my sight.. So it all works out in the end anyway
