View Full Version : The Prelim Contest

The contest will still take place today at 4:20 PM ET. I will post the questions to this thread at that time. Are there any questions?
Flora, suppose the WC Chicks did most of the scoring for the Water Cooler, but the Rebel Forum wins. The WC Chicks could still claim to be the dominant clique.

Good to see you back, Eb.

Wait, how do you score with the WC chicks? i am confused.

Nice try Grim, but the guys who have figured it out don't tend to share their secrets. Everyone's gotta figure it out for themselves...

oh flora,
don't play so hard to get? I am not so sure we want to give up Andy - at least he is easy.

OK Draco, I (as usual) need to clarify rules:
I will make a few alterations for attracting more participants. I will post 26 Zip questions, one for each letter of the alphabet. To receive individual credit for an answer, your post may not be edited when I call an end to the game. To receive group credit for an answer, your post must carry a tag corresponding to your group. You may receive credit for both a clique and a forum. I anticipate the game will last between five and ten minutes. There will be a preliminary game on Thursday, November 8 at 4:20 PM ET. There will be the official game on Thursday, November 15 at 4:20 PM ET. Please invite any board to play along, including the SOA board. Cliques can be fun. Encourage your clique or create a clique to use the same tag. It would be fun if the WC Trolls proved how intelligent I know they are and win this event.
I will be using the Merriam-Webster Online (http://www.m-w.com/home.htm) dictionary.
So - you are now putting up 26 hints but you did not identify a time limit or a # correct to end the game. Please clarify.
-----------------------------------
Are we held to one answer per person, one per post? Or can we answer all of them at once?
I assume each person can answer more than one and can have more than one per post, but you should confirm
---------------------------------------------
I assume that if a RF member answers the "A" before a WC person then the RF person gets credit and the WC person does not - but I had that assumption on another one of your games and I was wrong...
---------------------------------------------
That's all for now!

Flora, we aren't playing Othello, chill out a little. Who is this Draco guy you are asking questions to, he doesn't exist in this Forum anymore. This is a Draco Malfoy Free Zone!

There is no time limit. I anticipate all answers will be given in less than ten minutes. Answer as many as you can with as many posts as you can. You must tag each post if you want credit for a forum or a clique. Do not waste time by giving the questions. Answers will have a unique first
letter. You may answer more than one in each post but this may cause someone to answer the question before you.
Wolverine
11-08-2001, 01:36 PM
It is my opinon from Draco's other posts that you may answer as many of the hints as you want with as many posts as you want, but must note at least the forum you represent and maybe a clique too.
I would hazard to guess that there is no time limit as we will go until all are answered correctly or he calls it cause no one is getting the last one(s). The winner will be decided by which forum gets more of them.

I am agreeable to the scoring for the Prelims. Thanks Cynical Realist, captain, my captain. I was already aware of Flora’s ability, but I am mightily impressed with Gregor Grubb. The Rebel Forum may prove victorious if they could find one more poster like him. The official contest will be at 16:20 next Thursday. Please remember to tag your post with a RF or a WC. Prelim scores will be wiped away and both sides will start from scratch. Thanks for playing.

Hierophant, I will be posting the Contest on a new thread. I will post the thread early in the day on Thursday so there will be no hunting for it at 4:20. This one will be official and determine the winner of the two forums.
I’d like to see greater clique involvement. I see that you are proud member of a twit list. Can you organize the RF Twits to make a run at the clique title? It doesn’t seem like the WC Chicks have any competition.

I feel lost. I need to find some sort of clique to attach myself to.

Gandalf
11-12-2001, 01:56 PM
Hagbard,
Want to join the Independents? With you we'll have 2, but perhaps I can scrape up some wizards, dwarfs or elves or hobbits.
The key will be to attract some talent. Gregor Grub, are you interested? Think of it this way: what other clique could you join and remain independent?
Or Nature Boy. Whooooo would offer a better deal than we?
Or Flora. We know you'll never leave the WC Chicks, but did EK make a rule you could be in only one clique? (Darned on-line dictionary might have some such definition).
DTNF and Traci: How about you? What a coup it would be to get you on the same team.
Steve White: If you join, you can be our official trader.
Andy Lang: You can be our official tradee.

I'll have to weigh my options carefully.
I can join an old white-haired, shrivelled up, conceited, know-it-all wizard who puts innocent hobbits in harms way just to save the world and be known as an "independent" or I could join the chinese hottie known as Mulan and be known as an "aimless."

I’d loved to be a part of your clique, Gandalf. I must say I’m not that smart and feel confident that my best attempt will result in zero points. Hermione is the prize among the wizarding students as far as intelligence. Professor Snape is undoubtedly the smartest professor at Hogwarts.
May we discuss the name? I’m not sure about Independents. I did like mister nacho’s idea forwarded by Maine-iac of Nookie. Since Nookie as already been used, what other creative clique names are there?

um, Draco, that best attempt of yours. Is that with or without cheating? Slytherin does have traditions, should we say?
But you're right, Hermione will be the key to our success. Doesn't she have time capabilities that will let her see Flora's postings, then post them first?
Gandalf
11-12-2001, 03:23 PM
Hagbard,
I can understand what you see in Mulan.
Allow me to point out, though, that they can do wonderful things with plastic surgery today, and it has been ages since I put any hobbits in harms way.
Now the conceited part, that's still an issue...

Not that I would know of a time-turner but if Hermione had one she probably gave it up long ago. Gandalf, perhaps you could make nice with the Aimless clique. The WC Chicks may have a serious challenge on their hands. Is it WC Aimless, RF Aimless, or both?
Mulan
11-12-2001, 03:57 PM
I believe it is "WC Aimless" - unless Lara is a RF?? What about just "Aimless" and cross WC/RF state lines?
Any others want in?
Hagbard Celine
11-12-2001, 04:02 PM
Lara of course you're welcome! There's just somethin' about girls who like adventure...
Mulan, Lara is definitely WC.
Although I personally don't care if we cross over and become WC/RF.

Join "Aimless"?
When the owls are pouring in with offers to join Independents? (not the favored means of communication for wizards of the Middle earth, but we have to adapt to the times.)
But I recognize opportunity when it nooks; er, knocks.
Aimless, may I join you?
Mulan
11-12-2001, 04:33 PM
Any objection from Lara, Hagbard, or Wolverine... to let Gandalf join us? It is fine with me, but Hagbard is our fearless leader, having named our clique. I assume Gandalf is RF? The rest of us are WC.
Wolverine
11-13-2001, 08:11 AM
I have no objection to Gandalf.
I propose that we are just the clique aimless, and that it is up to each individual to decide which forum they represent. I personally like the idea of a multi-forum clique.
We stand united!
Gandalf

Yes, Wolverine, nice as you all are, I could not forsake my RF roots were that required to join the clique.

Draco announces I'm part of Aimless, even though from here it seems Lara and Hagbard have not yet accepted me.
Wolverine, who is officially part of Aimless, bolts to WC Chicks.
Another Day in Paradise suggests I (not specifically) might be eligible to join WC Chicks, but I would have to register on Chicks thread. Discrimination: CAS won't let me register now, so I can't apply on that thread. That's what I get for answering "Occupation: wizard".
What's a poor wizard to do???

Gandalf, you're welcome to join...I was just assuming you were already a member.
Wolverine dissed us hardcore.

Of course you're welcome to join us Gandalf. However, I have a feeling that Flora is going to take us to the cleaners. She could be her own clique and win!

EK "You may answer more than one in each post but this may cause someone to answer the question before you."
Are we allowed more than one guess for a single letter in one post?

Sure, that seems fine.

Great!
I'll have a few Andy Lang posts copied, ready to paste as my first answer post.
They're long enough that we're sure to get a few hits on the key words.
Don't tip the WC Chicks to this strategy.

Please, no offense was intended!

All answer posts must be coherent. Man, I don’t even know this Andy and already I’m slamming him.

I went with aimless cause I didn't feel eligible to be a "Chick"! Now you tell me! Well, Maybe I will have to work for both! At 2001-11-14 10:09
The real question is for what clique are you spying? I suppose we’ll all know tomorrow. Wolverine, you sure do use a lot of exclamation marks.
I found another reason to like this forum. Mooning someone is an official smilie. It is moon with a colon before and after.

Wolverine, I'm just foolin!
With a name like aimless, you can't expect much loyalty!
And I understand how hard it is to turn down the WC Chicks!

You know him pretty well, it seems to me.
PS - Gandalf, I don't think your idea will work. Andy was notorious for his typos, and even if he hit the right word by chance, the spelling of it might still not get you any credit.
