My weight has steadily climbed over the last year (up 20 lbs: simple answer, I went back to college) and I'm ready to halt that and rewind it.

6 yrs ago (16 yrs old) 205 lbs. 5 yrs ago, 175 lbs. 3 yrs ago, 235 lbs. Last year, 205 lbs. Now, 225 lbs.

Time to make a serious lifestyle adjustment, get down to my target of 170-185, and stay there permanently.

I'm tentatively following in my g/f's Weight Watcher's diet steps (points system and all that), but I think exercise is the key.

My primary issue is time: during the summer, I'm going to be going to bed at 10 pm, up at 5:30 am, at the bus stop at 7 am, home at 7 pm, eat then study for an hour, wind down, bed.

I'm thinking up at 5, with a half hour to hour of exercise in morning with a half hour walk at lunch is my best bet, and exercise on the weekend is all I have time for (g/f and I walked/hiked for two hours today; feel good), however. I'll figure out more tomorrow night (comments are welcome!)

Up at 5 sounds ambitious.

Up at 5 sounds ambitious.

That's what my g/f is saying, but I'm going to have to consider trying it; I can't think of another time where exercise is feasible (7 pm is too late; home after a long day, and I need to be able to sleep at 10).

If 5 AM is your first impulse, give it a try. If it works for you, great. I get up at 5 most days, and it's not a big problem (though I don't exercise in the morning). You just have to try it to see if you are a morning type or not.

If it doesn't work for you, the key is to search for another option rather than just giving it up.

Good luck!

I was up at 5:30 this morning to work out. Even though I prefer working out later in the day, it's kind of nice to know that it's out of the way for the day and I don't have to worry about fitting it in later. It's so easy to go home after work and say "I'm too tired\I'm hungry for dinner\it's too late to work out. I think early workouts also help me be more alert at work in the morning - sometimes I sit here and yawn all morning long, but not when I've had a nice blood-pumping workout!

If you're going to bed at 10, getting up at 5 should be fine.

My fiance and I go to the gym immediately after work (we carpool). On days when we go home first because we are planning to do something outside, it is a struggle.

Down 3.5 lbs so far ;)

Other than walking to and from work in NYC, and a weekly 2 hour walk with my g/f, I haven't gotten much exercise done. The difference, I think, is I now eat three meals, without going overboard, and have stopped the snacking whenever I feel like it. (I joined Weightwatcher's online for my g/f ;)).

I guess studying is a really fattening thing to do... I put on 10 lbs the month I was studying for my P and FM... But I finally got them off a month after the exams
