I do often wonder what traditionally rich white sports could become if everyone had a chance to play them with the amount of instruction needed to at least reach some level of proficiency. Prime example - Venus and Serena Williams dominated the sport for a while despite having fairly mediocre skills.

Is the absence of blacks in these sports racism?

Is inequity of whites as a percentage of demographics in other sports racism?

Discuss.
We can't possibly discuss this without all the information required.
We need a black sportswriter's help.

When playing basketball on one of the top courts at the Y, if I shoot an outside shot early in the game and miss, it is rare that I see the ball again for the rest of the game.

I think S and V have some upper tiered tennis-specific skills. They would have been unstoppable if they actually played enough to become wise in the sport.

Well, your last sentence may be true at least. Given the number of women players who have had mysterious, lengthy injuries the last few years, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't the only ones. Luckily, my girl M. Hingis is back to represent the skilled, savvy player.

Gael Monfils (pronounced Mon Feels according to Suzie Kolber) is another amazing African French athlete getting by with good but not great skills.

[racist on]blacks will never dominate hockey. They don't like the cold climate.[racist off]

You can make the same point to a lesser degree with water based sports. I believe they could dominate tennis. Not golf or NASCAR as those are not as dependent on sheer athleticism.

I've been in the same situation - it's very uncomfortable. If I go back to the city I was born in and play with 9 other people who don't have the same skin tone as me, I can tell I'm singled out even before the game begins. I better go 6/6 or I won't be picked up for another game. When I play in the city I live in now where people have seen me play, I'm often the first one picked up.

clearly you are not black. Because if a black guy ever came to my home court, he would automatically be the first one picked (regardless of skill)

A better question: When will all non-European white players be extinct from the NBA? Past results don't always accurately predict future results.

As long as the offensive renaissance continues, I think we're safe. Hinrich and Adam Morrison will be dominating the league for the next 10 years.

my current all-american white boy team

c - brad miller
pf - troy murphy
sf - wally szczerbiak
sg - mike miller
pg - kirk hinrich

2nd team

c - chris mihm
pf - raef lafrentz (though his name suggests otherwise, i think he's american-born)
sf - mike dunleavy
sg - kyle korver
pg - luke ridnour

this team wouldn't suck, but they certainly wouldn't be winning any championships. compare this to 15-20 years ago when you would have picked something like: laimbeer, mchale, bird, mullin and stockton as your starters, and still have majerle, hornacek, chambers, vandeweghe as reserves, which certainly would have been championship caliber.

edit: per LCB's post, morrison will probably be a little better than dunleavy, and i also just realized i hadn't considered jason williams, who seems to have learned when to shoot (or perhaps more importantly, when NOT to shoot), so maybe he's a little better than ridnour.

Which one of Shaq, Kobe or Lebron is white? It can't be anyone else can it, since they are the only ones ever talked about in regard to the NBA.

Since Lebron is actually 27 years old, he's probably lying about his skin color, too.

My point exactly. Your 15-20 year old team is full of great players... your current 1st team has nobody, really. So, with that being said, how's the talent going to look in another 15-20 years?
