Are there any other good seminars for C3, or is GSU's (because of Batten) the only one worth attending?

I have heard that Temple's seminar is really good. You can get info at. .

I don't think he is teaching for the NEAS Course 3 seminar this time.

I went to the NEAS C2 seminar in Iselin, NJ. Batten taught that seminar, but he said he would no longer be doing seminars for NEAS (well, he said definately not C3). I think the only way you can get Batten for C3 is if you go to Georgia State.
I beleive he and Mahler are combining on a 5 day seminar in Chicago, but I have the info at work and that's still verboten as of now. I'll try to post it on Sunday.

I highly recommend that you take a look at Jim Daniel's Seminar in Austin, TX. His seminar was definitely a great boost for me to pass C3 at my first try.
Also consider the fact that most of the other seminars are very crowded. His seminar is for about 25 people only. You can get an one-to-one tutor before, during (in breaks) and after any seminar day. Jim's enthusiasm and energy during his seminar are admirable.
Also it takes place in Austin, TX that is a relatively inexpensive place to spend a week.
His seminar was also the first seminar I have ever attended, so indirectly he helped me to understand and have a good idea how to prepare for any actuarial exam.
In summary, I'm fully satisfied with his seminar and with my exams results since then.
Good luck on your search!

I agree completely with Numbers123. I took the inaugural Course 3 seminar for the May 2000 exam and scored my one and only 10. He has a great way of talking you through the ways to attack the problems. Through this method, he really seems to be able to break down the problems into a few simple steps. The seminar is both highly organized and it provides plenty of time for group and one-on-one questions. Plus, you get to spend a week in Austin. I've recommended this seminar to all of my exam track co-workers.
I hope this helps.

I took Dr. Daniel's seminar (It's in Austin, TX) and I passed. It lasted about nine days. One friday to the next Sunday. He goes fast, so you need to know the basics. He is very good about showing you the shortcuts, I believe it is why I managed to finish the exam. :D

Here is the link for the Chicago seminar Avi was referring to. Batten and Mahler are teaching it this year.

I'm glad to hear good things about Professor Daniel. I'm going to be attending the PREview seminar next weekend and hope this will jump start my study strategy.

My company hires Daniels to teach Course 3 and 4 seminars. From what I've heard from other people at work, he's a pretty effective seminar teacher, so there might be some validity in those previous posts. I'll know for sure in a couple of months when I have him and Batten together.

I've taken a couple of seminars with Prof Batten before and I'm a great fan of his :guitarwo: but I've never been to one of Mahler's. It's apparent he really knows his stuff, but what is his teaching style like? I went to a seminar once where the instructor rarely got out of his chair and was so dry I could barely stay awake.

I've heard this is the problem with Mahler. I have NOT attended one of his seminars. I recommend his notes.

I am going to the MAF Course3 seminar in Chicago with Batten and Malher.
From the inputs in this forum, it seems that it won't hurt me that much if I skip the last few days of Mahler's lecture as long as I have his written notes. What do you think? This way, I could save some money on my hotel cost (have to pay myself  ).

I'm also attending MAF, but I'm just going to the Batten part - I already have Mahler's notes. For those that also signed up - where are you travelling from, where are you staying, and is the company paying? I'm paying for all myself...

For those of you going to the MAF seminar, when did you registar? I sent my registration and check in on 1/19 and then got an e-mail a few days later saying it was already full. I've never seen one fill up so fast! I wound up settling for the GSU seminar in April. ( I say settling because I really wanted to be in Chicago for personal reasons, not because I felt it was a lesser quality seminar.)

I sent out registration on Jan 15th and also emailed Ken that my registration and check was on the way cause I know 40 spots would be very quickly filled. Didn't get a confirmation until Jan 20th that I got in.

Upon re-reading this thread it appears I was a little harsh on certain people. Those posts have been edited. I would like to say that I have it on good authority that Jim Daniel's seminars are top-notch and all posts regarding their value are legitimate. Any implication I have made to the contrary was a result of my own stupidity. To the offended parties, please accept my apologies.

I know someone that went to one of his seminars. He said it was very helpful. Thought of going myself, but decided on MAF.
For all those going to the MAF seminar in a few weeks - is there a secret handshake or something to identify other RF posters? :)

You need to wear the t-shirts with the new logos.

I didn't see any hot pants, though there are a few hot chicks. The class has thankfully thinned out a little now that Batten's piece is done. Fellow RFers, reveal yourselves!! I'll be sitting in the back, as usual.

how is the Mahler portion going? His notes are very good and he does a lot of problems. I took 4 notebooks of notes for Batten and all of Mahler's stuff is in his notes, so you don't have to write that much. It's a different style I guess. I'm getting a lot out of it.

I had great troubles in identifying posters....although I think I might have correctly nailed down one. On the other hand, I wonder how many of you could have (or did) correctly identified "Mathlete". I would love to know who is who...just didn't know how.
