View Full Version : The 42 club

I was talking with my accountant girlfriend, and apparently people who take the CPA exams have what they call the "300 club." There are four parts to the CPA exams, and you're scored up to 100, with 75 needed to pass. There are some rare people who manage the minimum passing score of 75 on all four parts, and thus get to call themselves members of the 300 club. Obviously it's not an official thing.
So, is there anyone among us who's completed all exams in our dying system and scored the minimum on each one? Since C7 is pass/fail, 7 x 6 = 42 is the goal to shoot for. I doubt we actually have anyone who six'ed all of 'em, but is anyone close?

An FSA once told me that he managed to earned his designation with all 6s. But it was under early 90's rather than current system.

do we include failed attempts as well? If so then I seriously doubt anyone has passed with all sixes never failed an exam.

51 won't cut it, unless you can somehow subtract points. We're looking for the bare minimum here.
For our purposes, failed sittings don't count, as if they never happened. Of course the complete idea situation would be passing every exam on the first attempt with a 6, but that's damn near impossible.
With 1 exam to go, I've got a shot at the 46 club. Can anyone "beat" that?

Hmm... scoring a 6 on 7 exams. Results in 42. Coincidence? I think not.
Since I just got an 8 on P, the best I could shoot for is a 44... but I'm sure there will be three more redesigns before I'm done, and 42 won't be the perfect score anymore.
I've also got a chance at the 46 club with 8G this fall
51 total on 8 exams...
37 total on 5 passing exams...

I have 25 through 4 exams. I don't know how they are going to score the FAP exams, so I might not be able to challenge the 46.

I have 27 through 4 exams, but one was a 9 on the easy FM sitting (May '05). I don't think that should count against me, because I only studied for a 6.

I go back to the prior system, but have a total passing score of 90 over 14 exams. I got a 9 on 120, and 7's on 100, 110, and 150. Everything else was a 6. But that is an average of 6.43 per exam, which is slightly "better" then a 46 over 7 exams (6.57).
Adding up all the failed exams would unfortunately take way to much time, but at least I can finally say that my exams are done!

so far every exam that I passed I got a 6 =)
I wasn't a very good math student back then..... when I was in school I took the first exam just to see if I can get through the actuarial exams (with no intention of entering this field). I studied for 20 hours, thought I did bad on that old course 100 exam but somehow I got a 6=)
The second exam...... course 2...... I took it while in school, back then I didn't use any study guide at all except for the Actex's interest theory portion. So I wasn't surprised to get a 6. =)
Then course 3....... I had some tough times with it. took it a few times, finally passed it along with course 4. Both I got a 6 =) (I should have gotten a better score on course 4, but I remember clearly I made some stupid errors, then it affected my guess so my score drop from an 8 to a 6)
Then course 6. Coming out of the exam I did so-so (although I studied my butt off), since I did well on most questions but leave 1 essay question (4-pointer) blank and screw up an 8-pointer. Maybe I luck out, had another 6 =) oh btw, I also passed course 7 pre-test, if I passed course 5 last fall (I had a 5), that would fit the description perfectly =)
I guess I have missed all my easy opportunities to score higher than a 6, but I will try to do better on my exam! But I guess it's hard for me to change as the "middle of the pack" performer......

My average score is 6.5 through 4 exams. With FAP & the FSA modules next on my plate, it's going to be a while before I take another exam with a numerical score. Probably not until Exam DP in November 2007, so it will be 16 months before I have another score to report. If I get 6's on Exams DP and CSP, then I'll have an average of 6.25
