Just to give you some heads up:

Course 5 grading will start this weekend.

Central grading is tentatively scheduled for December 16th.

What question are you grading? If you're doing the TUC/PUC question, I think I put Bx on page 2 where I really meant Br. I swear, I really did know what I wanted to say, I just wrote the wrong thing. Also, on the Group Disability question, I thought of a few more things I didn't write on the exam, so I'm submitting them now for extra credit:

Health Status
Employee family status / exposure unit
Trend
Managed Care use
Scope of covered benefits
Policyholder cost sharing
Insustry rating.

I hope you will take this into account. Thank you very much for grading,

-Phil

I am not grading anything, but I am involved in the administration. I am just telling you about the dates - that is all I know.

I'm just kidding, of course

Grader,

When will the MC answer key be finalized?

You can tell MY answers from the $100 bill stapled to each page.

Monopoly money, of course.

Hmmm... if you're not grading anything, then why is your ID "grader"?
Also, are you related to the Insider from course 6?

I know what you are referring to, but I am unrelated to anyone - I am not promising anything to anyone, nor do I disclose "private" information. The dates info is not confidential.

Why my name is grader? What do you want me to say - Administrator? That would be stupid.

Before wishing everyone merry Christmas, I will tell you that central grading has recently taken place and list of passing candidates are being finalized today an next week. The remainder of time before the lists are released will be dedicated to admin issues.

yo grader,

don't wish everyone a merry christmas. don't assume that everyone who reads these boards is christian or celebrates christmas. there are Jewish acutaries and Hindu actuaries and Buddhist actuaries and Muslim actuaries and atheistic actuaries and loads more. so don't freakin' assume everybody here wants your xmas wishes.

I hope you included a rant like this with your exam, it'll do wonders for your chances.

Hmmm... I hope you aren't trying to preach tolerance because I don't think a hateful rant will get your message across. Besides, he/she is only trying to be nice - maybe do you a favor.

MERRY CHRISTMAS YO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Don't you freakin assume that I am not going to say Merry Christmas. I hate everyone saying not to say Merry Christmas. I celebrate it, so I should be able to say it, and not have to hide my beliefs. And anyone else can say Happy Hannukah or Solemn Ramadan or Happy Kwanzaa or whatever, but this PC crap where you can't say anything is ridiclous. The fact that your happy wishes for someone else can somehow be construed for intolerance is absurd, so again MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL and Best Wishes for the New Year!

As a staunch traditionalist, I celebrate the new year on April first. So your wishes, however well-intentioned, are quite untimely.

If you choose to simply say "Happy Holidays" you can be very inclusive and never worry about offending anyone. That is why most companies have Holiday Parties now.

Have a nice holiday everyone.

thanks, sb_jim.
That was my (not necessarily well-made point).

Can you say thread drift?

Anyway, I think the point is that I wouldn't walk around saying "Happy Birthday" to everyone else on MY birthday. Likewise, I think it's ridiculous to say "Merry Christmas" to people who don't celebrate Christmas. Unless you know that the person celebrates a certain holiday, it just seems sensible (and considerate) to say the generic "Happy Holidays." I understand that the intention is a good one when people say "Merry Christmas" to complete strangers. But the message loses something when the recipient feels that their own holiday, religion, etc. doesn't matter enough to be acknowledged.

Does this mean I have to be sure to follow up my "good morning" with "good evening", "good night" and any other variation we can think of ?

If someone wants to wish someone a happy ANYTHING, what reason is there to be offended, whether they "celebrate" it or not ?

BigMactuary,

I didnt know and have never heard that the dates that gradings start is NOT confidential. If grader is what he claims to be, I am a little disturbed by this. No one should be allowed to give out information that is not intended to be public. My concern is this: Our profession and our designations are only as authentic and honest as we let them be.

1. As I said earlier, I am not a grader.
2. All our internal documents or policies never prohibit anyone from disclosing the events after they took place.
3. If you paid attention you would have seen that I never mentioned specific dates.

Do you get a day off on Christmas? Then STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT BEING OFFENDED WHEN PEOPLE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS. I don't see anyone protest "I am not a Christian. I have to go to work on Dec. 25".

To all the retards in this post:

(1) Christmas is not a Christain Holiday. Actual it follows after some pagan tradition. However, Christmas is really a tradition for everyone, is it not? I'll put it this way:

It is not I that lives but Christ lives in me.

So I am a Christain, by grace. End of point.

Now what does Christmas have to do with Jesus?
Was Jesus born on December 25?
Where did the Christmas tree come from, Do they have those in Israel?
And how about gift giving? Santa? misletoe?...
So really Christmas has nothing to do with Christainity but it is tradition. However, some of us celebrate as the day Christ was born.

I don't celebrate Christmas as the day Jesus was born, I celebrate everyday. For those who celebrate Christmas in this way, it is Christmas to them, for each person knows what it means to themselves. As for Jews, Muslims,... it's not Christmas that bothers them, it's JESUS. And the thought that people truly do acknowledge His birth. And by acknowledging His birth, you say I believe JESUS is for real, and if He is for real, then you are without excuse.

Muslims and Jews don't like Jesus because Satan is their god. There is no Love in their religion, it's all about themselves.
And it truly is a religion!!!

Hey E.,

Your 12/24 post reminds me of part of a Simpson's episode.

Pagan Dark Ages Simpson family celebrating (April 1) New Year with fire and sacrifice.

Dark Ages Christian Flanders family pulling a April Fool's joke on them, explaining Jan 1 is really new year's day.

Next scene: pagan Dark Ages Simpson family sacrificing Flanders family (tied up at stake in fire) while chanting "Now who's laughing? Now who's laughing?"

Mr. or Ms. Toronto

This is a nonsense comment that Muslims don't like Jesus. We respect him very much. We believe him to be a messanger of God. Our point is that He is NOT a son of God. Neither God has son nor God is son of anyone.

Further, Islam is a religion of love. Before you say anything else about Islam, I recommend you to study Quran, Hadith and 'reliable' books on Islam. That will show you that Islam is a complete guide on how to lead life and will address all your misconceptions about Islam.

We should take care in posting a message in this forum. This is not a spot to prove the greatness of any religion. We should limit our discussion to ACTURIAL PROFESSION and avoid to pass comments which are baseless and hurt people.

To yunr: I'd gladly work on Dec. 25th and take a floating holiday some other day during the year, but I'm not given that choice. You can bet that if I worked at a gas station or someplace that is actually open that day, I'd be the first one to volunteer to work on Christmas and Easter. So when you come up with a valid point, let me know.

To Toronto: The simple answer to your question regarding what Christmas has to do with Jesus - LOOK AT THE NAME OF THE HOLIDAY! I think that question is equally offensive to Christians and non-Christians. Would you ever even consider asking a minister or priest what Christmas has to do with Jesus? IMHO, the fact that you even wrote that question discredits you. The real question is "What does the manner in which many people celebrate Christmas have to do with Jesus?" However, Christmas is all about Jesus.

Most priests don't know what a Christain is so how would they know what Christmas is?

As for Muslims => Jesus is a prophet?

Your not talking about the same Jesus as I am. I'm talking about Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. The Son of God, who being His Son can only be God.

Muslims believe in Holy War, Christains believe in turning the other cheek. In vain? NO. God will not let His people suffer, but for a little while and then...

Osama Bin Laden is a Muslim...

No Muslim supports Osama Bin Laden, yet Muslims are hestitant to come forward and point a finger at him. No you don't outright support him, but you say absolutely nothing to condone him. In other words your silence says it ALL!

sb_jim

Toronto: You may want to check your dictionary and edit that. Saying nothing to "condone" OBL is probably a good thing from your point of view.

Yo, Toronto -

If Jesus is the Son of God,
And
Jesus is God,

Is Jesus his own father?
Or
Is Jesus his own son?
Or
Is this a mystery that humans cannot understand and is to be "taken on faith"?

Serious question - I really do not get this concept.
