AOFF Official Draft Thread

Welcome to the AOFF Initial Player draft.

Here are the rules, schedule, and player salary info.

Please try to keep discussion to a minimum in this thread. There are plenty of other threads for that. I want it to be easy to find draft picks.

Watch the first post in this thread as it will have the draft order and will be updated at least daily with each player's next deadline.

Please get those preranking lists to me by Monday, Aug 7. I will not use them for any purpose other than making picks in your absence. You'll just have to trust me on that.

There some times that I will be unable to monitor that draft board (I do work ocassionaly). In those cases, I will need deputy commissioners to help enforce deadlines and make picks if none is made. I am taking volunteers for this.



AOFF Keeper League Initial Player Draft 2006

Rules


The draft is a serpentine style with pre-set salaries.







Each owner is responsible for maintaining their salary cap throughout the draft.
Any pick made that exceeds the cap, will be forfeited. (ie, the player is released back into the draft pool and the owner loses that pick.)
You are on the clock once the pick made prior to yours is made.
The pick is due by the deadline as shown on the schedule.
If no pick is made by the deadline, the commissioner will select the next player on your pre-rank list
Pre-Rank (PR) lists must be submitted to the commissioner prior to the draft.
If no PR list is submitted, the player salary list will be used as that owner's list.
If we are unable to complete the entire 20 rounds by September 7th, teams will be able to fill out their rosters via free agency.
Each owner must assign R contracts to at least 3 players with a maximum of 10. They can be for any length from 2 - 5 years. you have until the first game to assign the R contracts.
The schedule will be updated after week one, after week two, and daily from there on. Schedule updates will simply push the next pick to be made down to the 10am deadline and fill in accordingly behind that pick.
Do not edit a post with an actual draft pick in it.
When posting your draft pick, please include both the players name and his salary.

I only edited by adding the 6 words to the front of it, but yeah, I can see how this could be a cause for concern. BTW, I am taking Alexander for 70 cents and Johnson for 75 cents. Still got a ton of salary cap room available. ;)

Good question. I'll raise my objection as a board member formally when I see a terrible trade or privately to JustASix and dinosaur when I am skeptical. But otherwise, I'll just make fun of someone when I think they traded poorly.

So which trades should ultimately be allowed?

(1) A trade that is very close to fair, with one side arguably on the better end of the deal.

(2) A trade that the majority thinks favors one side over the other.

(3) A trade that basically everyone thinks heavily favors one side over the other.

(4) A trade that seems to the commissioner and board to be an obvious case of collusion.

I would assume that (1) and (4) are pretty obvious. I have seen leagues that go both ways on (2) and (3) either accepting or rejecting both. It depends on what kind of trade atmosphere you want to have.

I can make an argument that any trade (especially this early in the season) that clearly gives one team a decent sized advantage adversely affects me even if collusion is likely not the case.

I'm fine with the trade because some people are willing to give up anything for the overall number #1 pick. Though I think its obvious who is getting the better deal here.

If you have a problem with a trade, send a message to myself, Just, & Kohl with your comments. Considering this is a keeper league, trades can get a little extravagent and may leave you wondering what were they thinking.

Here's a trade I recently made and my brother said I was raped. I received DeAngelo Williams + 2007 1st Round Draft Pick (probably Top 5 in 16 team league). I gave up Edgerrin James & Houshmanzedeh. Why did I make the trade? I freed up $27 in salary cap room for free agency & I really wanted DeAngelo & a higher draft pick next year. Plus I have Ronnie Brown & Rudi as my other 2 starting RBs.

In our baseball league, I traded away Sammy Sosa for a no name reliever. Why? Because Sammy had a restricted contract and I needed cap space to resign my holdouts. Plus, he was on the decline. I eventually dropped the reliever.

Due to the time sensitivity of the draft period, I suggest that the board make an official ruling on any draft pick trades. This would give the go ahead to the player assuming the picks that it is ok to go.

Abstract Actuary, you may want to create a short order of the possibilities you will want for JustASix to use for you; otherwise he will be pulling the most expensive player left when your slot rolls around.

Here is the first post of the thread. Everyone will have one pick due on Monday or Tuesday.



Abstract Actuary, you may want to create a short order of the possibilities you will want for JustASix to use for you; otherwise he will be pulling the most expensive player left when your slot rolls around.

My pick that was scheduled for Monday or Tuesday was already made. In fact I have made an additional pick already. The decision to move pick times up was never made.

I understand how preranking works and all, I just think it is very harmful, especially this early in the draft. If JustASix/everyone decides that we are moving the schedule up then I will submit a prerank list. When does Just come back? I leave tonight at 5 CST.

He or anyone could submit a preset list each evening. I've had my possibilities narrow down to four yesterday for my next pick. I could have sent that into JustASix to make that selection for me. The ordered list doesn't need to be excessively long. I also have an ordered list into JustASix right now with players I wouldn't mind taking, even though I anticipate taking someone not on that list. It isn't that difficult to do.

Forget the list...just make everyone's pick due 2 hours after the previous pick.
If you're not going to be available for a day or more, submit a list to JA6.
If you're going to be in a meeting and might be away from your PC for more that a couple hours, PM a listk to JA6, or the guy who picks after you.

Another option is to end the draft after 14 rounds, and just fill in the 6 other positions via free agency.

Next week is 2 hour limits, then it is 1 hour after that. We can get through 3-4 rounds next week and be through 8-9 total. We need to speed this draft up a little. I made the schedule the way it is in an attempt to be accomdating to everyone's schedule. I know a lot of us are busy. That said, if you could check in a little more often and try to make sure you know when you will be up, that would be great. Here are a couple thoughts that will help us.
Our goal is a round a day, that means, about a pick an hour during the day.
1. If you are going to be away from your computer for a few hours and are in the next three or four picks, send a short list to someone who picks after you.
2. Try to do your analysis before your pick comes up. I know things change all the time, but you should have a real good idea of who you are going to take when your pick comes up.
3. Trades. If you are going to work on a trade, don't post that you want to trade your pick when you are on the clock. We don't have time for that right now. I've done this myself and won't do it any more.
