Any FSU grads or current students out there? How large has the program grown the past few years? When I graduated, the Act Sci program was only about 20 or so.

Well I'm here! FSU ActSci Alumni, Unite!

The program is doing well. The Love Building was renovated, and the course structure is gearing more towards exams, I believe.

What year did you graduate?

Holy crap, Tom's from FSU!?! Sweet!

I am a '96 grad. To my knowledge, there are only 3-4 of us '96 grads still practicing as actuaries with a few others in the ins. business but not actuarial.

How about you, when did you graduate?

I would love to get down and see the renovations. It could only be an improvement. Is the meteorology school still on the 1st floor? I knew a guy in that program and we used to joke about how they kept the math and weather dorks together and away from the business school.

Yea, they're still on the first floor, with the CS geeks in the new wing. Where the hallway used to end, is where the new wing begins. It's really nice, but I left before they could redo some of the new building. Bettye is still there and you didn't get a chance to meet our newest Actuarial Professor, Dr. Paris, but he's an outstanding teacher that is really going to keep this program going. I graduated Spring '04, and there were only 2 others that graduated with me, but there were a lot more young people when I left than when I started, so I think the program will continue to grow.

They usually tailgate for football games, and I'll be down there for the first home game. You can always send Esther an email, and she can keep you in the loop with what's going on as far as tailgates and so on.

I was an FSU grad student far before they had an Act Sci program. However, I did work with Bettye Anne Case - what a great lady!

Wait, FSU existed before the Act Sci program? I thought we were the founding father program for sure!

I agree Dr Case is quite the lady...she's a great professor and nice as can be.

Hey guys, I graduated from FSU in the Spring of 2006 (post Love building rennovation period). I would estimate that there's about 30 or so people in the current program. There's a website out there with some social events listed and I think Dr. Paris updates the page with current events. The address is: http://www.math.fsu.edu/~tboles/fssas/

Congrats on the recent graduation. I think we now have enough people together to start a tailgate party.

I've been meaning to make it down for the yearly FSU ActSci BBQ.

December 2007 grad - woot!

Forget the BBQ Tom - you have to try the Crawfish Boil...it's an experience! Just make sure you pay attention when Dr. Paris is demonstrating how to eat them.....::shudder::

We need more Nole representation here.

When is the next Crawfish Boil? I'll totally go!

And by the way, I was born and raised in New Orleans, so I have a little bit of experience when it comes to peeling crawfish/shrimp, crackin crab, or shuckin oysters.

Welcome fellow nole! My whole family is filled with gators, but we manage to get along.

I'm going to go down to Tally in the Spring time, go to some events, maybe take a dip in Wakulla Springs, go fish the gulf, and a number of other fun past times I associate with FSU.

Dear IMP,

This place is for Noles only so the term "go gators" is out of place.. Lol =P

What´s up guys,

I graduated in the Spring of 2006. We were a class of about 25 people in FSU's Actuarial Science Program and it was awesome.

Worked as an actuarial analyst for an insurance company, then as an actuarial manager for another and now currently working in the Statistical Modeling and Managerial Information Systems Department of the Panama Canal Authority.

Yes, FSU's Actuarial Science program is heavily geared towards exam preparation (which is cool in a way).. They should include more applied stuff though.. Because most of the real math and concepts (that you actually apply in real world situations) you get once you pass fourth exam +. More professional seminars that complement the theoretical part would help a lot.

Go Noles!! Have a wonderful friday... Cheers!!

Spring '12 graduate here. I will be working for Capital Health Plan in Tallahassee as a Financial Analyst (but it is actuarial work) for a while so I will definitely be a season ticket holder for the three major sports this year. We can really get a tailgate going. I would love for this forum to become a little more active.
