View Full Version : Splitting the forums?

I sent the following PM to Tom earlier today, but am curious if others are on the same page.

Tom,

With the changes to the Exam process, I'm wondering about the following.

1) Course 5 no longer exists. It is probably appropriate to remove its name from the "Course 5 / Modules 1-5" forum

2) Course 7 and Modules 6-8 are going to be going on concurrently for the remainder of the year. It might be nice / appreciated to have two distinct forums - one for Course 7 and a different one for Modules 6-8. Similarly, it might be nice to separate Professional Development and Exam CSP. The last 6 months of PD corresponds exactly with the first offering of Exam CSP.

I don't think there are any other overlaps. Course 6 is long over and the FSA modules aren't out yet, and there's a year-long gap between Course 8 and Exam DP.

Just some ideas that I think the posters would appreciate!

I think it would also be nice to have the module forum broken down by module/exam as well.

Do you mean one forum for every module and a different forum for each exam, for a total of 10 forums?

I kind of prefer it the way it is now - two forums for the two groupings of modules and corresponding exams. I just think it will get messy if we are sharing the Module 6-8 forum with the Course 7 folks. The two groups are, necessarily, mutually exclusive.

I agree with splitting the PD forum with the CSP forum -- there's really no connection between the two, and having both going on concurrently would most likely make a real mess, between those rushing to finish PD and those trying to figure out what the first CSP exam will be like.

Anyway, I agree with your email.

i know that it would just be for a couple months, but i'd love to have the course 8s split.

It was discussed before (here (http://www.actuarialoutpost.com/actuarial_discussion_forum/showthread.php?t=38817), for one example), but nothing's ever come of it, and it might be too little too late to ask for it with only two months left...

It is done.

Go, Tom, go.

I love the way Tom has split the forums, I see one problem though:

ERM/Finance and Advanced Port Mgmt tracks have separate CSP exams. Rightfully, Tom has given these tracks separat threads. However, they share a fall DP exam. I don't recall off the top of my head if they share FSA module or not --- my guess is that they do not.

Anyhow, for the upcoming Fall-07 FSA exam, it appears that under current design, discussion will be existing in two locations for a single exam. I can't think of a more optimal solution, so perhaps we'll just have to live with it.

The current forums are just for CSP exams, not for all FSA exams, I thought. As of now, DP is sharing Course 8's space. Once the fall syllabus is announced, the current Course 8/DP area could be split into subforums that make sense.

I thought they were busted into tracks, and CSP just happened to be topic of the moment.

Your interpretation would result in a ton of sub-forums, but it would address the issue I brought up.
