All the definitions come from Meriam-Webster Online (http://www.m-w.com/) except for my z word that was too good to omit. The contest will begin at 16:20 on this thread. A winning forum, clique, and individual will be announced shortly thereafter.

Gregor Grub, I didn't find it under Yahoo. It will make a difference to the game. Do you protest or have a link with pronunciation and definition?

Stop looking for zoanthropism. Look for the Prancing Pony. Our clique has no hard feelings. Even Wolverine is welcome to buy a round.

One seabreeze coming right up. And mooseheads all around for the rest.
Sorry to flirt and run, but I've got to get offline now. Lousy internet connection here at the Prancing Pony.

(Stumbling aimlessly after too many Mooseheads).
Boy, can that Ammie party! Why did I try to keep up with her? Time to take up teetotalling.
Hmmm, teetotalling... that doesnt look quite right, but then, nothing looks quite right now , except Ammie .
Didnt someone leave a dictionary link around here? (Cliquing aimlessly, then getting lucky , with the dictionary link, not Ammie ).
Thats odd. Teetotalling isnt a word. Its teetotalism.
Hmm, If the WC got credit for teetotalling, and the RF was first with teetotalism, the contest should be a 13-13 tie.
Maybe Ill remember to file a protest tomorrow..

Begins with T; 4 syllables; the principle or practice of complete abstinence from alcoholic drinks
Begins with Z; 4 syllables; a kind of monomania in which the patient believes himself transformed into one of the lower animals
My difficulty in coming to a final decision is based on my lack of knowledge. When I say the word prism there are two syllables, but this could be just the way I speak. Is teetotalism four or five syllables? Is zoanthropism four or five syllables?
General Kenobi (ret.)

If Merriam Webster is the guide, then teetotalism has five syllables (so should it be "and sometimes y, w and m"?).
They give the last syllables as:
"-t&l-i-z&m"
The ampersands represent vowel sounds, and the dashes divide syllables.
Gandalf

If you had heard me trying to say either teetotalling or teetotalism last night, it could have been anything from 1 to 6+ syllables. Never again so many Mooseheads, even to keep up with Ammie and Mulan.
OWK,
You should remain neutral. Your WC loyalty is admirable, but points for Aimless are also at stake.
The official dictionary has tee·to·tal·ism
Surely it is the dots that represent syllable breaks; what else could they be?

Alas, Jedi Knights are guardians of truth. You've got a point, though--there's no way that prism can be hyphenated as pris-m. Maybe there's a distinction between written and pronounced syllables. Draco may want to consult with the WC's Amateur Linguist on that one.
Gandalf

Still stumbling aimlessly. Oh, drat, I've wandered into the wrong contest thread by mistake. I'm sure the official contest's N answer was nag, so this must be the official scoring for the preliminary contest:
Begins with N; 3 syllables; a viewpoint that traditional values and beliefs
are unfounded and that existence is senseless and useless; ni·hil·ism Flora WC Chicks
Hope I can find my way back to the official contest thread to call this to EK's attention. Or even better, to find my way back to Ammie or Mulan.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: "Draco may want to consult with the WC's Amateur Linguist on that one."
Without taking sides, since I am registered in both RF and WC, may I point out that perhaps a third-party arbiter would be more appropriate for an issue between the RF and the WC? I could post the question in the Desert, if you don't mind waiting a month or so for a response.

Gandalf makes a valid point in regards with the ism controversy. Regardless whether there is or is not four syllables in zoanthropism, there is prior precedent. The last question should be whether zoanthropism is or is not a verifiable word like teetotaling (http://www.notredame.ac.jp/cgi-bin/wn?cmd=wn&word=teetotaling).
General Kenobi (ret.)

A google search for it returns only two web sites, both referring to a PlayStation 2 game (guess we know what Draco/Ebenezer was doing instead of studying). I say it is not a real word.

I took zoanthropy from my dictionary at home. I dont like playing video games unless there is another real person playing right next to me to whom I would berate with trash talk. I dont own any video game system. Worse than that, I requested the specific dictionary as a birthday present one-year because I just wanted it.

Hmmm. Allowing something not in the official dictionary when you say (except for Z) that the words are from the official dictionary seems highly dubious. Surely EK had teetotalism in mind when he picked the definition (which should have make the syllables question trivial).
But since the issue to EK is merely whether it is a valid word anywhere, I concede to Flora's usage, recognizing her noteworthy performance for the chicks (and hoping to get back into her good graces).
Now, has anyone seen Ammie or Mulan recently?

My first post on this thread.
All the definitions come from Meriam-Webster Online except for my z word that was too good to omit.
Obviously I was wrong. It would be simple enough not to award credit, but unfortunately that would be biased as well. I am truly at a loss.

EK,
Despite the posturing, I'm fine with T being awarded to WC, the Chicks, and Flora.
'Teetotaling' has been confirmed to be a word, and it's not reasonable to expect competitors to know which words happen to be in any particular dictionary.
Congratulations to the winners. Glad we could give you something of a challenge.

Wow, I thought RF needed both T and Z for 13-13. You mean with T to us or thrown out we would win?
WC still deserves T.
But glad to see those congratulations to the winners now includes the RF as well.
Super job, GG (and Flora). Way to carry us (GG, not Flora).
Now, please, with vocabularies like yours, can't you come up with a sentence for "paucity"?

"thropy" is a metanalysis.
Zo-anthrop-y is from Greek zoon, animal, anthropos, human being, and -ia, a feminine abstract noun ending.

Oops. My partial quote introduces confusion.
In context, Flora's WC post was objecting to "Anotherwards", Flora was not using "Anotherwards".
You know Flora's typing better than I, so it is conceivable that she intended to object to a different non-word, but it would be quite a parlay to guess it.
