Okay, for a while I was really happy with Excel 2002 (Office XP), recently
IT people installed a patch. Now it has become a nightmare.

It takes forever to open pdf, powerpoint, excel files. We have NTS (Windows 2000) server. It people claim there are some incompatibilities
in Samba (?) But I have all software that I use on my PC.
Recently, I found a partial solution, that is not to log on to the server (so
I can't use Z driver). It works okay but same problem sometime.
Two thing that works are Xwindows and Citrix client (so I could log on
to NTS).

Anybody had similar problems?

Samba is a program that lets your network drive talk to your PC. Sounds like it's misconfigured, probably the log in isn't going well thus stalling things.

But it's not an incompatibility, it's a misconfiguration. While it's possible that it's a Samba problem, my bull$%& meter is reading pretty strong that your IT folks haven't properly configured your machine or their samba server.

Thanks, that is exactly what I think.

Thanks to everybody who posted. I am not sure I would want to migrate to Linux immediately, perhaps once I complete my Excel VBA project.
