I thought in the webcast it was stated that the spring 2007 education catalog would be released today (Nov. 1). Is there a revised date when we could expect it to be posted on the SOA site? Thanks!!!

I believe the webcast said, "Expected availability". They did us one better by releasing the CSP Exam information a week and a half early.

What were you looking for?

It would be nice to know what study notes are going to be on the exam. Also, what books we will need to buy since it is mentioned that some textbook readings may be available as study notes. So the catalog will definitely be useful - but I am sure a couple of day wait wont make too much of a difference.

This is the latest update, I think.

And here is the link for 2007 CAS Catalog: http://www.casact.org/admissions/syllabus/index.cfm?fa=summary

Thanks for the link, but I think a number of us are waiting for the details of Exam CSP to be released.

They said they were trying their best to get the SOA catalog done by week end.

Are these all the study notes? They appear to be the readings available online. Could there not also be published study notes that we'll have to order?

There could be.

Where are the study notes? I don't see any (at least for the Group and Health CSP exam).

Edit: Actually, it looks like all the others are out there except for Group and Health.

The fact that they released more, but not all, of these readings I'm guessing means that they don't have the Spring Catalog ready to release imminently.

I'm not sure why I'm so anxious to see it, I'm not planning to start studying for a few more weeks. I guess I want to know what's ahead of me.

Today the SOA said that the catalog is going to be released towards the end of the month.

so by 'beginning of november,' they really meant 'end of november.'
good to know (for future reference...)

Based on FAP experience 'beginning of November' would mean Dec 6th.

Is this posted on the website somewhere (I can't find it), or did you call the SOA?

Your wish has been granted: http://www.soa.org/ccm/content/exams-education-jobs/candidate-and-exam-information/spring-exam-session/spring-2007-catalog/spring-2007-catalog/

Very interesting how they did it this time - it's not one big pdf of the catalog - all of it is available via the web. Well, the parts pertaining to the syllabi are, anyway.

Unless I am looking at something incorrectly, that is the same information that has been out since last week. It still only contains the partial syllabus for the CSP exams.

OK, now they have updated the health CSP exam and added the online readings, but still no study notes.

You know that the SOA is striving to become paperless. It may be that there are not going to be any study notes other than the material available online. Perhaps someone could call the SOA and confirm?

I like this format, though it would be nice to have a huge pdf, too (for archival reasons).

Lots of interesting stuff -- probably not new to the catalog, but because the sections are broken out I'm noticing stuff like advice on exam-taking.

C8 had case studies. Are those gone for CSP?

I just talked to the SOA. There will still be study notes added to each of the CSP exams in addition to the online readings recently posted. They are not sure when they will be available though.

Not that it really matters I suppose, but I was hoping the case studies would be out. In the recommended study methods, the SOA themselves say to familiarize yourself with the case study before reading syllabus requirements, and then to review it each time you finish reading on a learning objective. Seems like we can't follow their recommendation with this timeframe.

I have no insider info, but I would read the Fall 06 case study of the corresponding exam. I do not think they will change that much.

Where did you see that there was even going to be a case study for the CSP exams. The information in the student tips that references the case study is old as it refers to the course 8 exams. I was under the impression that there wouldn't be one for CSP.

that's precisely my question. Will there still be CS's on the CSP/DP exams?

It didn't mention which exams, but in the Spring 2007 catalog, section on "Suggestions for candidates", there is a paragraph titled "become familiar with case study."

I am making an assumption that these will be for CSP/DP as they are supposed to be similar to C8. (yeah, I know what can happen when assuming  )

Is it fair to assume that the tables for C will be the same as those used last sitting? Is there any timetable for the posting of study notes/tables?

I couldn't find any information on the required reading for exam DP. When will we have this information?

Exam DP won't be offered until November - the earliest information pertaining to that syllabus will likely be available on or around the time the Fall 2007 Catalog is released.

Anyone have an update on when the comlete catalog will be released. I've been waiting to find out which books will be available as study notes. I have some from course 8, so I'm not in that big of hurry, just curious.
