OK. I'm pretty prepared for this, on all of the practice tests I get 70% without checking anything- and I have over an hour spare to check. I generally ace the T/F and any ordering questions. I have problems with Assertion/Reason and XY-2of. So my strategy is to do what I'm good at first, and check almost everything else.
I have a few questions about some of the Actex questions. If someone could give me a reference, I'd appreciate it:
Sample Exam 2: #24 Acceptability vs Quality (an XY-2of question)
Sample Exam 3: #48 I would choose B not A - the reason calibration data should not be used is because it gives biased results (Optimism principle) - not for the reason given.
Sample Exam 3: #38 I thought decomposition could reduce errors - I didn't think it was used as an evaluation technique for forecasting.
Anyone know what % approximately is required to pass?
You are overprepared. You will pass. Now go have a drink and relax.
I feel like I'm in the same boat as you, the T/F and ordering are fine, the other 2 types of questions give me problems. It's just a terrible way to test knowledge. The XY-match 2 type you basically have to answer 3 questions right to get the problem right. Any part wrong and the whole thing is wrong. For the Assertion/Reason, a lot of times the difference between A and B is really tricky and you just never know which way they want you to answer it. Like when the reason is a cause of the assertion, but not the whole reason, or not the main reason. It's frustrating because the way they ask the question can trip you up often.
I'm trying not to go too crazy though, the pass rate's nice and high for this!

wirchy....for sample exam 2, Q24...Quality matches with III (third paragraph of page 298 on study note 21..."quality refers to a model's ability to provide good outputs"). Quality also matches to I (page 306 of SN 21, under "Evaluating Quality" heading..."Quality can be evaluated by examining the inputs(assumptions) to the model").
For sample exam 3, Q38...1st paragraph on page 58 of SN 21..."It [decomposition] is useful in structuring forecasting models, obtaining...., and evaluating forecasting models".
Not sure about Q48 on sample exam 3.

Can you please tell me where to find sample exam #2 and #3. There was only one sample example included with the study notes. Thank you very much!

Thanks McBain. I'm used to critically evaluating journal articles and books, not taking every item as truth. This exam is very frustrating.

I was asking about the ACTEX study manual sample exams (there are 3 of them) - Not the sample exam from the study notes.
