If I remember correctly, this is the ASOP that is going to be officially removed by the Academy in February, if they don't have anyone begging to keep it. So I guess the SOA decided to remove it from the syllabus. Glad I hadn't read it yet.

Also, 2 chapters from a text called "Analysis for Financial Management and Standard and Poor’s Educational Version of Market Insight" were added.

Did anyone notice that one of the items listed under learning objective #15 is "Describe principles outlined in ASOP 6", and ASOP 6 is not even on the required reading list?? Or am I missing something

It's not in the syllabus that I can see. I see 3 options:

1) ASOP 6 will be added to the syllabus
2) That particular bullet point will be removed from the syllabus
3) That information will be covered in the readings in "Retiree Group Benefits"

On another note, when are they giong to stop changing the syllabus?? It makes it hard for students to start studying when the keep adding and removing items every couple of days.:swear:

I could be wrong, but I think chapter 45 of the Employee Benefits book touches on some of this information. It never mentions ASOP 6 by name, however.

I feel bad for the lady trying to put together the GRASP manual... she is probably working harder than anyone on getting this all together... hope she didn't finish the 4 chapters from Bluhm that they took off last week.

This is partly why I am not sitting now. I had read 4 chapters of Group Insurance that are now not on there now. They replaced them with 4 additional ones.
I'm just focusing on finishing my modules at this point (although I am always in 'wait mode' for the next module). Hopefully CSP will reach equilibrium for next May.

I can respect that, especially since you've got 2 FAP exams in front of you.

These are my motivations for sitting in May:

I figure I'm likely going to need (at least) 2 attempts at these exams to pass anyways, so I may as well try to work through the info as best I can and get 1 attempt out of the way.

Plus I figure that DP won't be any more together than CSP has been, so it's not like I can get a head-start on that and focus on November instead.

I'm tired of being trapped in the poorly-planned transition period. They haven't gotten it right yet, and odds are they will continue changing it based on the how the 1st exam offering turns out. I don't expect it to get any easier or reach any equilibrium until at least the 3rd offering, so I will take every chance I can get to be done.

I just started reading the paper titled "Health Valuation Actuary". I'm concerned because on the second page it's mentioned that one of the authors was going to focus on ASOP 16. Anyone know the material related to ASOP 16 in this paper should be removed?

"In general, it is believed that the guidance provided in the standard is covered, either explicitly or implicitly, in other ASOPs (for example, Nos. 5, 8, 23, 28, 31, and 42)."

This would lead me to believe the concepts are still applicable, but the ASOP itself is unnecessary. Thus, the references to ASOP 16 may be outdated, but the material is still good.
