For Profit D&O

I'm working on a For Profit D&O project in which I must convert insured's revenue into employee count. Obviously this is not an exact science, thus I'm looking for ballpark ideas.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

The insured can't tell you the employee count? Or can't even guess?

Is this contained in his published annual statements, SEC documents, etc.?

If the answer to the above is no, then find a company in a similar industry and get their revenue and employee count data from their annual statements or SEC documents.

I'm with joe on this one - look in his published documents etc. You might want to wander down the hall and talk to the D&O underwriters - unless your company is just entering the field I'd be surprised if they don't have figures for other companies in the same industry segment.

I don't see any way to generalize from one industry segment to another - think of a high tech company, most of whose staff are professionals, try to compare that to a service company that runs concession stands in airports and baseball stadiums.

Yahoo finance shows the employee count for all publically traded companies under "company profile" if you pull up their stock quote.

For private companies, you could figure our a revenue/employee ratio by industry for public companies and apply that ratio to private company revenues.

Thanks to everyone for their response. Does anyone know of any sites with general industry info, which provides SEC data on employee count and Revenues?

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=YUM in the "INCOME STATEMENT" table. Also, fyi, there was a post in the software section of the forum recently detailing how to download web info directly into excel.
