Just finished seeing the end of this again.... I'm sure this has been covered here in the past, but it's bothering me, so...

I did really like the movie, but the sports fan in me has to ask the question.... how did she "lose" the fight? Beyond the obvious disqualification issue, am I crazy or did the referee not STOP the fight? I've watched a ton of boxing, and you don't come in waving your arms for a standing 8 count (and then walk away from the boxer).

Am I the only one that thought the ref stopped the fight? When her mom makes the comment about her losing, I was baffled.

All I know is I hate all of her relatives. I want them hung and burned and drawn and quartered.

Shouldn't this be moved to the "Bad movies you watch anyway" thread?

and I would think the other boxer would not only be disqualified, but banned from the sport as well....it was televised, and Morgan Freeman's character saw what happened on TV...therefore, they have a visual record of the cheap shot....there is no way that she should have "lost" the fight...

my guess, it's just her mom being ignorant and the other boxer not being knocked out = her daughter losing

In real life, the fight would have been waived off as a DQ.

In some extreme situations, if the ref doesn't see something correctly, there is not instant replay, so if the ref thought the girl tripped and fell onto her stool, it would still go down as a TKO. I don't think that it mattered for the movie.

As an FYI, there is no way that any ref would have let Rocky keep getting up in Rocky 6. Antonio Tarver TKO2.
