You don't drink? Sounds awful.

Kaia

Nope, don't drink, and I didn't before atkins either, but at least now I have a convenient "excuse". :D

No bread, no pasta, no fruit, no milk, no sugar. Basically meat and green vegetables (except peas).

Congrats on the engagement and I hope your wedding turns out well.

hmm... weight loss isn't just about diet. You can't forget about the exercising. Running definitely works but make sure not to overstraing your joints... 3 miles every other day is usually safe.

Kardio Kills Kaia's Kalories?

Why stop at 3?

Kaia

Lol, yeah exercising is in the plan (4 times a week). And for the record, I don't see it as a 'diet'. It's a way of life. I will never go back to eating bread normally like most people do. Just can't.

Really? My stomach was designed for grains and I love to bake. Really you can eat anything so long as it's in moderation.

Tony Sinclair: "Always in moderation"

Plus I've eaten over 20 varieties of animals... I love food...

Wow K you must know 101 ways to cook meat. How do you not get bored of it? Especially since I think you mentioned once that you can't eat onions either. Is it possible to make things like meatloaf and stuff without onions??

Okay, if I'm to fill Kaia's shoes as being the resident AO go-to slut, I guess I'd better start posting like I own the title.

Jables is right, though, that comment can be directed toward me. But along with my meat, I usually like to have a side of fish taco, if possible.

No bread, no pasta, no fruit, no milk, no sugar. Basically meat and green vegetables (except peas).

I highly advocate altering this to incorporate complex carbs (whole wheat and grains) into your diet, especially if you're serious about starting to exercise. The Atkins diet is not made for people who desire any type of athletic ability or endurance, in my opinion.

to keep up with your theme, I suggest the first thing you cut out is ring ding's and any burnt food.

Now you have the South Beach diet. After phase 1 this is a great way to loose weight. Phase 1, like the Atkins diet is awfull if you are exercising at all.

See, this is kind of why I didn't want to post about it. I'm not changing anything. I've seen what works, what doesn't. Someday down the road I will add in wheat products and low sugar fruits. Just not now. :judge:

I could never give up carbs for life, and atkins only works if you give it up for life. I'm italian - i want my fresh bread and pasta occasionally :-D

Thanks mls, this is so true. You can gain it back even faster than you lose it on atkins if you go off it. And I definitely don't want people thinking I recommend this method. It might look good on paper, but it's hell to live with for most people. :judge:

Now this doesn't mean you can never cheat, but when you do, you have to be prepared to gain weight back. It usually falls right off again when you restart, but you can never go back to eating bread and sugar regularly if you want to keep it off.

I did atkins a couple years back. Fastest 30 lbs I ever lost. Then the fastest 30 lbs I ever gained

Good luck! :-D I'll eat a portion of pasta for you ;-)

I've done this atkins thing on and off for 7 years. I think at this point, it's messed with my body's metabolism enough that I have to be low carb for life.

Thanks for taking one for the team and eating some pasta for me

If you get used to the low glycemic index, high fiber carbs, you can introduce breads and pastas back into your diet without gaining weight. At least its worked for me so far. (Six months and counting.)

It took awhile to adjust my palate, but now I prefer the whole grain breads and pastas to white anyway. And they don't trigger the binges the way the simple carbs did.

Sugary foods are tougher, and I still have to control portions tightly, and probably always will. It is very easy to binge on these. The things that help is to have my little bit of dark chocolate right before bed, or to eat a small amount of a sweet dessert just after something that takes longer to disgest (protein, whole grains, etc.)

Kaia
01-10-2007, 10:33 AM
Yeah, in the later stages of atkins, you do add back in the 'good' carbs so someday I'll eat low carb bread (luckily I already preferred whole wheat/grain breads), apples, some berries and other low glycemic index fruit....just not till after the wedding. ;)
