I have done this so many times and using a scale just makes me focus on the scale.
I'm doing the Couch to 5K running program. I'm doing Week 3, rep 2, tonight. I have made a lot of progress considering I couldn't even run for 60 seconds back in August. I have had a few setbacks but I finally feel like I am getting somewhere with this program. Incidentally, I have never been a runner, but I'm not coordinated enough for aerobics and I've found that just walking wasn't really getting me anywhere. (OK, bad pun, but you know what I mean.)
For eating, I'm mostly trying to avoid junk and eat more fruits and veggies. Eventually I may count points a la Weight Watchers or try a South Beach approach without the Phase 1. I'm trying not to stress about it b/c I can easily get to the point where I think about nothing but food, and that is counterproductive.
With my study schedule, DH is in charge of the grocery shopping and a lot of the evening meals. Can you say pizza? I'm trying to provide him with lists and plan to not stress out if I have a hot dog one night, but leave it at one and round it out with fruit & veggies.
As far as a goal, I want my pants to not be tight.
After my exam, I may do South Beach for real if I decide I want to lose more weight. At this point I am not sure how much time and effort I want to put into being thin. I would settle for "not fat" and somewhat fit. (That's why I want to stick with the running program.)
