Pretty good weekend.

Yesterday, my 8 month old son fell asleep in the car. It was the first time I've seen him asleep in the car since he was born. All this time in between, he would tolerate the first five minutes of a car ride, but after that, he would just brake into tears. I stayed in the car with him for almost an hour and a half. I parked down the street from our house, so that when he started coming out of deep sleep, if he was crying as we approached our house, I could stop and run him inside to Mommy. But he didn't cry. I just drove around the block, he fell back asleep, and I parked again and watched him through the rear view mirror. When he was done sleeping, he didn't break into tears like I feared he would. He just slowly lifted his head, opened his eyes and looked around, then looked at me and smiled. That was pretty awesome.

Tonight was my friend Alex's birthday party. In the invite, Alex requested that instead of gifts, he wanted everyone to perform something. Alex and his wife are opera singers, so they sang a duet from La Traviata (accompanied by Mrs. Bassfreq on piano). Others sang, some read poems, someone did a comedic monologue, one couple taught everyone else some dance moves. When it was my turn, I picked up my bass and performed "Changes" by Bowie. I rewrote some lyrics, like "ooh, look out you opera singers", and "pretty soon now, you're gonna get older-like Alex". Its been a while since I performed like that. I miss it. It felt really good, and people seemed to really enjoy it.
