Note to self: Read "Qualifications" list in job postings from the bottom upward

Doing so would help me judge lists like this one* more quickly:
  • Detail-oriented
  • High school diploma
  • Self-starter
  • Able to communicate with others, both verbally and in writing
  • MS Excel, intermediate-level or higher
  • Able to type 40 WPM or greater on a computer keyboard
  • Work as an individual and as part of a team
  • Twelve or more years of industry experience
  • Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries
Grrr! I can imagine, barely, why hiring managers might want to do it this way: FSA's and FCAS's are hard to find, and they may be able to get by with a candidate who "only" has an associateship and nine years of experience; the true "must-have" qualifications, like being detail-oriented, come first. Even if I've got their thinking right, it's kind of irritating for the rest of us.

I guess most companies have a more convenient way of communicating that expectation, namely by listing the job title as "actuary" instead of "actuarial analyst" or "actuarial student." Even so, I don't want to miss an entry-level job posting that ignores this convention. I am detail-oriented, after all.

    Heheheh. I like when they use inconsistent language for experience like

    Essential requirements: a minimum of 2-5 years experience preferred.
