Puppy Love

Posted 11-25-2008 at 10:21 AM by Inconceivable

If I have one passion then it is animals. I hope to one day own a little farm with horses, goats, alpacas, chickens, etc. I wouldn’t own anything that I’d turn into food or sell to someone who’ll turn them into a meal. I’d have the horses for fun, the goats for the milk, the alpacas for the fur, the chickens for the eggs, etc. (I lived on a farm when I was a kid so I know how much work all this is and I still love it)

Now with that said, my favorite animal of all time is the good old reliable mans best friend. There’s just something about dogs that I love. I would be fine never seeing another person (barring family) again as long as I had a bunch of dogs around.

I started thinking about this after reading a CNN story today about how many people are abandoning their pets because of the economy. Many are leaving their pets at the shelter and many more are just abandoning them completely because they can’t/won’t pay the $55 shelter fee that covers food, medication, expenses, etc. This just makes me so sad and I’m thinking about adopting a dog this holiday season. I have 2 right now and they’re 1.5 and 1 years old so we definitely have a crazy house with them.

I know there are starving people everywhere and wars and all kinds of atrocities that need our attention and help. I try to give a little money here and there to many different causes but I feel like animals are my passion. (BTW, I want to go on record that I’ve never given a dime to PETA because at this point they do more harm then good so I send my money elsewhere)

When I take in an animal I do so with the understating that they’re now a part of my family and I try to treat them as such. When times get tough, is it socially acceptable to abandon your kids? But kicking your dog out where they’ll probably starve to death is completely ok. Things like this are why I lose more and more faith in humanity and dislike people while caring more for animals every day.

I am very saddened by the news that UNCORRELATED LAY’s dog was shot by a crazy neighbor. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family UL.
