New Actuarial Jobs

This blog will document my journey towards attaining the ASA designation. I am a career changer. I currently work in engineering project management but want to become an actuary. I am interested in mathematics and its actuarial applications. I have passed the preliminary P and FM exams. My next target is MLC and MFE in May 2011 and C in October 2011. I have previously passed all 3 levels of the CFA program and enjoy investing. As you can probably make out, i have an affinity for exams

Dealing with Reserves

Posted 02-20-2011 at 09:51 PM by cat060
I was quite apprehensive of the reserves material but seem to be enjoying it as I navigate the section. Understanding reserves requires a thorough understanding of insurance, annuities & premiums. Hope to finish life contigencies material by 3/7.

Completed insurance section from ASM. On to annuities next. I am currently one day behind my study schedule all due to my laziness. Hope to catch up to my schedule soon.

Posted 01-11-2011 at 01:11 PM by cat060
4 months to MLC exam day. Add a few days more for MFE sitting. Things are heating up. Made a daily plan yesterday. Plan to follow religously.

Need to increase focus

Posted 01-06-2011 at 02:00 PM by cat060
Have not been able to put in more than one hour of study since the 3rd. Need to change that. Work issues are sidetracking me. I will have to refocus so that i finish the Insurance section from the ASM manual by Sunday 1/9. Also, need to divide time more efficiently between MFE & MLC.

Finished put call parity & binomial models

Posted 12-30-2010 at 03:03 PM by cat060
I am enjoying my MFE studies much more than MLC. I can relate to the material a little more since I have seen some of it in my CFA exam studies. I am using the TIA seminar. I usually watch the lectures a couple of times and then work every problem that is assigned for the section. I plan to complete the MFE syllabus using TIA and then supplement practice with 'actuarial brew' and/or ASM. Not sure how much time will remain at the end. I am still committed to MLC and MFE in may 2011. It is looking...
