All of the ACAS and FCAS that I've worked with have included students under the term "actuaries" so I'm not sure what universe you live in.

I have a feeling this is some crap from consulting ppl.

I used both and found TIA to be better for me. I didn't read any of the study materials and found the Goldfarb manual far too wordy. I'm almost certain that I passed.
