I've been browsing the MFE threads from last week's exam. To me, it doesn't look like there is a whole lot of material on the exam, but that the SOA likes to throw a lot of curveballs or test obscure topics. So my question is, for those that took MFE this May, how many hours did you study? Also, if you participated in the PAK how many answers did you get right?
I got a 9 on FM with 275 hours of study and a 26 on MLC pak with 375 hours of study. I know many of you may not have taken MLC yet, but with that in mind, how many hours should I aim to study for this fall? |

Do many people log their hours? I just study until I know everything really well.

i would say at least 200 hours. your right, there isnt that much material on this exam but the soa does find a way to make 7 or 8 questions on the exam to be stuff you havent seen before. i would defintely not just use a study manual to prepare. even though derivatives markets book is not very well written, i think using this would have definetly prepared me better. using this and a study manual would probably be your best bet.

It looks like you study far more than the average test taker, but your score reflects that.
I studied about 100 hours for MFE and scored 16 on the PAK, though I got lucky with a couple guesses turning out correct. I think the general sentiment is that you hit diminishing turns on your study time on MFE faster than any other exam. |

I studied for about 150 hours (give or take 100) and passed with a 7. But I took it during the "easy" sitting.
