Default Bailout Bill 2.0

Trying on the Senate side this time, reportedly.

Quote:
From Senate aides:
The Senate will vote on the economic rescue plan tomorrow night after a series of stacked votes starting at 7:30.

The structure is this:

The Senate will call up H.R. 1424, the text of which will be substituted with the economic rescue plan (a Dodd amendment which must have the consent of both the Majority and Minority Leaders). The only other amendment in order will be a Sanders amendment that will be handled by a voice vote.

The bill will be subject to a 60-vote threshold for passage.
Remind me again why Chris Dodd is allowed to lead on this, given his contribution to the mess. (Senate rules be damned.)

UPDATE: Some more info, from an aide: "it will be the economic rescue plan, plus the FDIC improvement, plus the tax relief extension bill that we passed earlier this month ($100 million in net tax relief that’s being stalled in the House)."

UPDATE II: A Senate source on the GOP side assures: there's a "Majority Leader/Minority Leader consent clause in there to make sure that nobody tried to add anything to the bill that didn't [have one of the party leader's] consent."

So, if the second bolded part is accurate, does that make this bill any better than the last crap sandwich? Will it pass?

Lovely. I hope not, too, but have little hope in Congress holding out. They've been (as have most people) way too conditioned to respond to the fear tactics at this point.

Onoz! The sky is falling.

Since McWalnuts suspended his campaign, we've been told the end was nigh a few times. But where, O where, is this end? Is a two day drop of 290 in the stock market the end of the world? This is what we are fearing?

Seriously? This is the catastrophe? Gimme a bruckin feak. Bailout supporters are just acting the way they are conditioned and waiting for someone else to do something to remove the big evil monster that someone on TV told them to fear.

The economy is mostly dead.

Funny, the man on TV said it grew at 2.8% last quarter.

This bailout is the latest effort at re-inflation of assets, because no one in power wants to swallow the bitter pill of market forces. This bailout is effectively the repudiation of Reagan's economic policies, which were in large part continued by both Bushies and even somewhat by Clinton.

Time for the GOP to stop mentioning Ronnie at their annual hoedowns.

Anyway, this bill will not invigorate the economy. It will paper over a needed readjustment, and we will be here again soon.

Seems like starting in the Senate would have been the smart play for Paulson et al. Those six-year terms provide some insulation from voter wrath. Now they have to play come-from-behind.

If McCain and Obama both vote to pass this - I'm not voting in the Presidential election, well maybe I'll vote Barr....

That's been the funniest subplot of this whole thing, the people on the left attacking this bill for not being even more of a steaming pile. - erosewater

I've looked closely at Bailout II. I'm very fond of it. I think we all should embrace it.
