Hey, I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with companies that would be interested in actuarial candidates who also have fluent Spanish writing/speaking etc. skills. I'm thinking this might be best suited for some type of consulting company, although I'm basing this "thinking" off a general feeling. Thanks for the help.

I've seen at least a couple of openings in Miami desiring bilingual candidates; in at least one case, the Miami office was a satellite office (or something) that handled Latin America.

You might want to look for opportunities in Latin America.

Look for a company with subsidiaries in a Spanish-speaking country. e.g. New York Life has one in Mexico. They may appreciate having an "interpreter" on hand for meetings with this subsidiary. For this to help you get a job, you'd have to mention your knowledge of the language and enthusiasm for using it in this way in your cover letter. I wouldn't give it more than 1 sentence, as this is probabaly not going to be the thing which gets you the job... but it can't hurt (so long as you don't write a soliloquy about it) and you never know.

I agree with Amy7- find an international company and mention it on your resume. Even at a lower level they can hand you pricing submissions or other correspondence and know that you can work with them. Right now I'm working on learning Spanish because my company has a book of business in Latin America (OK, it doesn't help in Brazil) and an office in Mexico. I'm decent in French and German and I've never been asked to interpret since most employees of international companies speak English, but it sure helps when you're traveling with your boss and you can deal with the taxi driver, the restaurant menus, etc. They like to have you around and you get some good trips out of it, maybe at an earlier level than someone who doesn't know the language.
