Default Cover letter question

I am about ready to start my emailing campaign to try and land an entry level job but I have a quick question regarding cover letters. Should I attach my cover letter to my initial email to the hiring manager?

I am planning on emailing the hiring manager and express my interest in their company along with an inquiry as to wether or not they have any openings. I will attach my resume, of course.

The body of your email should be your cover letter. This way they know why you are contacting them and have something to read before they decide to glance over your attached resume.
