Default Spring 2012 Progress Thread

My quest to become an FSA continues with the DP-IU exam.

It'll be tight, but I think I can give myself a chance by April 26.

I'll keep you guys up to date. So far, I managed to buy all the study material and make a study plan... haven't started yet, however. I plan to start by the end of the week.

Who else is up for the exam? Let's all kick tail on April 26!

Hi Daniel

I'm writing this one as well...I've got all the textbooks and the SOA study notes so I'm ready to go! I also registered for the Infinite Actuary online seminar and I plan on buying the ACE study manual/flash cards to supplement it.

This is my first FSA exam and it looks like its going to be a beast!

Hey There!

I'm so glad that there are finally other people trickling in on the ILADP forum! I started studying a month ago and am preparing to battle the DP beast in late April.

I've been working on my first pass through the material and ACE online seminar and study guide.

Happy Studying!

I got stuck on the FAP modules a bit longer than I planned and just finished up. If I started now and played some catch-up, would I have any hope of passing in April? This will be my first FSA exam.

Or, would it be better just to wait for the next one and work on FSA modules in the meantime?

I may or may not pass in April but I'm just going to push all my chips in and see if I can get a passing grade.

If I fail I'll just take it in November.

As for the FSA modules, they're short and quick. Little repercussions for failing to meet minimum requirements. So I would not worry too much about those.

In most cases the potential reward considerably outweighs the risk so it's generally worth trying even if your chances of passing are way below 50-50.

I started studying for CSP on January 8th last year and passed. It's definitely possible.

I'm hoping I don't have to study for DP again this time around, but the afternoon session of this past exam was so brutal that, sadly, I think I will be.

Ok, so I started reading the source material in September. I finished reading it last week. I definitely could have completed it faster, but wanted to go at a leisurely pace.

I finally got my study guide and I'm jumping into it. I hope to complete my first read through of the study guide (along side the source material) within one month. Hopefully that is not too optimistic! Keep you posted!

So, I'm almost done with my second read through (although I haven't gone through the ACE online seminar this second time through yet) and have been working some problems this time through. I must say, as much as I hate tax, the second time through I found it kind of fun...and the practice problems I've found have been kind of fun as well! So glad it's all making MUCH more sense the second time through!! Here's to hoping the Investment Guarantees book makes much more sense the second time!!!

I got off to a really late start; I started in early January and only really got in the swing of things this week.

I'm way behind my personal schedule. My goal was to get through the first pass by 2/12. At this point I might not get there until late February.

I also have the flash cards, old exam problems, and additional notes to go through so I may have to cut out the second pass and go directly to the additional review material.

At this point it's a real gamble as to whether I'll make it by 4/26, but I might as well roll the dice and see if I come up with a seven.
