Has anyone used the

ACTEX Course 2 Seminar on DVD, 2003
By: Richard L. London, FSA, Jim Bathgate, Ph.D., Carmelo Giaccotto, Ph.D

I have heard Actex is not the "much preffered " study aid for C2.
i used CSM & Temple in my 1st attempt and still going to do that for my 2nd attempt this May.

Is it worth investing in the above?

I can't speak for the seminar or the DVD. What I CAN speak of is the people (well 2 of the 3 really). I am a senior at UConn and I had London as my professor for Theory of Interest, and I had Giaccotto as my corporate finance professor. These two professors were fantastic in their knowledge of the subject and ease in conveying it to others. As for, Bathgate, he received his undergraduate degree in Economics from, you guessed it, UConn. I'm double majoring in Actuarial Science and Economics at UConn, and it's the best school for preparing Actuarial Science students (at least in my mind). I'm sitting for course 2 this May for the first time, and as I start to look through the material, I'm confident I'm going to do well because it's all material that I've learned from the masters themselves.

In short: I would suggest buying the DVD if you can't attend the seminar itself. These guys rock!

Default Actex Course 2 materials

I did not like the Actex Course 2 DVD, nor did I like the Actex Course 2 study manuals. I scored a 3 in November and decided to try the BPP Course 2 materials. So far, I much prefer BPP. Maybe if you have taken Interest Theory, Macro, Micro, and Corp. Finance classes in college, Actex would work well for you. I never took these classes in college and the Actex materials didn't do it for me. I used the Actex materials for Course 1 and did fine.

I liked the DVDs. I used the DVDs in combination with the Interest Thoery as well as the Micro book and passed.

I liked being able to watch certain parts of the DVDs repeatedly. I also agree with Wannabe that the lecturers were quite good. I also start all sentences with "I".

I loved the DVDs. I thought the cd's were a great value for the $200. I watched them over & over (especially the finance part that was soooo boring to read in Brealey & Meyers). I passed the exam.
