Okay. What gives? It seemed like the press finally settled on consistently spelling Osama bin Laden's name with an "O". In the past few articles I've read recently, however, I am once again seeing it spelled with a "U"--something I hadn't seen for quite some time.
Which do you prefer? Do you think there is a reason for some writers to choose one spelling over the other? Do you think there is a broader effort to try to avoid some of the slip-ups that have occurred over the years where reporters (and others) accidentally say "Osama" when they mean "Obama"? To the writers out there, I say: Let's just stick with "Osama". "Usama" just looks wrong.

Everybody should use the spelling that shows up in the 9/11 Commission Report, b/c that is 100% complete truth.

My guess is they found some form of ID or passport in his compound and saw that he spells it with a 'U'.

It's like how they couldn't decide how to spell Khaddafi. Suddenly he was qadafi. And Muammar instead of Moammar. And don't get me started on the whole Moslem/Muslim thing...

It's a U, because he is Mabus. Usama has all the same letters, because the rules of anagrams allow you to replabe a second A with a B. So says the weird Nostradamus expert on TV.
