Default What is your BMI?

I have seen many news stories lately about how obese American is and how we are getting fatter by the day.

Looks like close to 30% of Americans are labeled as "obese" based on their BMI being over 30. While I do not fully agree with using one general formula to compare all people, it will work for this instance.

Canada has a lower rate around 24% from what I am reading.

•Underweight = <18.5
•Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
•Overweight = 25–29.9
•Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

So let us see how the Actuarial community compares to the national demographic. Feel free to comment on the BMI scale or your area's trends.

24.7, so just barely in the normal weight category.

Also, BMI is a load of crap.

Meh, just another example of problems with statistics. It's very good for comparing populations, but shouldn't be taken as gospel for individuals.

Even within the range of 'normal' BMI, at the high end of the scale bad things begin to happen to me and I can't imagine being at the low end of the scale while healthy.

Yeah, there is no way I'll ever be normal weight. I haven't been <200 lbs at 6'4" since like 11th grade.

I can see a problem for the extreme heights, maybe ditch the linear scale to curve in at the ends

Maybe it's more accurate for chicks.
Men have a wider variance of muscle mass and bone structure. That, for example, makes all football players obese.

I'd have to lose 10 lbs for "normal" weight, not going to happen. I have been hitting the weight room a lot these days so muscle mass is definitely a factor. Better measure would be body fat percent.
