Default Need help with a professional dilema

Is there anywhere an ASA / MAAA can go for anonymous advice on how to handle an issue in the work place. I guess I would be looking for an opinion on how the SOA or AAA requires me to handle a situation.

Thanks,

-Papa

Contact the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline.

Much of the work the ABCD does is guidance, not discipline.

The "C" in ABCD stands for "counseling" ---- I would start there.

The ABCD (Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline) would be the appropriate place to go. I know they will give a confidential opinion on a situation that is described to them (they do much more counseling than discipline) but I don't know if they would allow anonymous or not.

Reaching out to a former professor is an option. A basic thing to remember is that things are not always as they seem and there may be some concurrent decisions being made which make intermediate actions seem less than straightforward. Certain things in life are not documented.

Thanks for all of your help. However, that link did not work for me. If anyone else has a link it would be very helpful.

I don't mind talking about it, though I hope everyone will understand if I am a little vague.

My responsibilities extend over a variety of areas. I am the only actuary for these areas. In one area I am responsible for, I found my name on a document which was submitted to a external governing body. The document was a recommendation for action which was approved and instituted without my knowledge. Since this morning I have found my name on a number of similar documents. I never made any of these recommendations. The person would did this (not an actuary) is saying he figured it would be O.K.

While still trying to be vague, I want to emphasize my name was not simply put on a cover memo. It was stated clearly that the recommended action was arrived at solely by me. The support for the recommendations was that: Based on my experience as an actuary, these were appropriate measures. Having made recommendations with this governing body before, I have developed enough of a reputation that my own experience and assurance is enough justification for them. I have not been working for that many years (Papa is just a nickname, I am not that old) but I worked very hard to establish this credibility.

I am being supported by senior management. However, I still have my actuarial credentials to be concerned about.

Anyway, to protect my anonymity, I cannot absolutely promise I will post how this turns out, but if I can, I will.

Thanks again,

-Papa
